I don't post here very often because I don't have equipment (well unless you count the 7" tile saw I use from time to time). My friend cut a piece of Rhodonite from Montana that I bought from another vendor at PowWow this year and I am really happy with the material. It doesn't have as much black in it as other rhodonite I've seen but it's got lots of bling from silver, pyrite, and other metals in the rock. It isn't as dark of a pink color but the bling makes up for it in my opinion.

A great piece. Yes, the lack of black does not deter the piece at all.

Hey Diane ( drocknut ) ! This looks VERY much like some magnesium manganese ore I purchased a few years ago in Butte. The material I have is a blend of massive Rhodonite, Rhodochrosite, Pyrite, Quartz, Silver and other minerals that specifically came from the Alice Shaft/Mine in Butte way back in the day. Your rock could easily be from that same pay-load of ore. It works up very well and takes a beautiful shine. Cabs that are pink and sparkly...who wouldn't love that!!!! Nice score. Cheers

Cheers The guys who were selling this said they were from Butte, MT area but I forget what mine they said they got it from but I know they talked about it being up by Philipsburg because I mentioned that I loved the candy store there. Supposedly they are in business with the mine owner who lets them pick in the tailings. Some of the rocks they had were very large. Some of the cabs and polished pieces they had were definitely pink and sparkly although a little light on the pink color. I got lucky and bought a few pieces because they couldn't fit it in the truck they had going to Tucson so they lowered the price (they were wanting way too much for it and noone was buying it).

That is a nice looking material. Does it work up well? More than likely it will. They had some cabs and polished pieces of it and it was light pink but had lots of sparkly areas so I would call it bling..lol.

Cheers Magnesium or manganese? I was under the impression the pink and black come from manganese?
I am also intrigued to see how the cabs turn out. I've never seen rhodonite with pyrite. Be prepared for some black water.
