Hi all. Well, since my 12 year old grandson always takes an interest in my tumbled rocks, I decided to make a tumbler for him so he could tumble his own rocks. Actually, I'm making two tumblers, the other being for my 13 year old nephew who also enjoys polished rocks. So for $25 and some wood and my time I made them both a dual tumbler(sorta like the Thumler AR-2). I'll package some grit and polish and some stones to get them started and see what they do. here's the $7 motor and the home made pulley I'll post pics of their first batch when they are ready. Ed

Wow, you'll probably have them completely hooked on rocks now.
I've been gradually gathering info. on making a homemade set up someday. Actually the info for my husband, since he knows which garage or shed most of the parts can be found. (one advantage of saving everything.) Still wondering about the barrels though. Are yours homemade too?
Gee, that's some darn nice maple used. Is that front lower piece .......... Birdseye? Nice.

What a great gift! Esp. since they are special made by Grandpa/and Uncle Ed. Those are some lucky boys. Nice looking tumblers. Are those 15 lb. barrels or do they just look that big in the pic? Those boys are going to have a great time collecting and tumbling their rocks.

That is cool, better than the toy one that I am giving my nephew. What type of motor are you using? Tami

Hi all. Thanks for the comments. It's nice to have an industrial surplus store just 15 min from home.$7 for the motor, $1 for each of the rollers, $.50 for the o-ring and the guy threw in the ball bearings. The barrels were the most expensive part at $16. I figured it would be easier for them to deal with a Thumlers barrel than a barrel made of ABS pipe like I use on my tumbler. They are 3lb barrels. And yes, that is Birdseye maple and fiddleback maple. Hey, it's a Christmas present, right? Tami, the motor is made by General Electric, same RPM as the motors on Thumlers Tumblers, but it is heavy duty. I can load both barrels full, put them on the rollers and turn on the switch and they start rolling right away. They're gonna have alot of fun. And I'm gonna get a lot of questions. Ed
