jamesp , the stuff you're dong with glass is outstanding. good info on photography as well. Russ Thanks Russ. It is odd to make your own tumbles lol. Not many pretty rocks to find down here like you western folks have. By the way I remember you made steel barrels for your rotary. This glass was polished in a vibe with a steel hopper without issue. A surprise. The steel barrel worked great for coarse tumbles. Interesting that the glass works so well with the steel hopper on your vibe.

You would guess that the steel would damage your batch Russ. Maybe even more so in a vibe. Glass, obsidian and even soft serpentine does just fine in the steel hopper. Mysteries abound...

I’m saving this thread, hopefully I’ll learn more about photography here. Thanks. I have an address label. Just have not gotten around to sending. I will.

I see you have been a Busy Beaver! They look Great. Thanks Man. Last summer I coarse ground a big pile of glass. Starting to finish it in the vibe here and there. Got like several 1000 pounds of glass blower scraps and chips that I want to sift into 3/8", 5/8", 3/4" and run them. Tiny tumbles. Thought they would be interesting Duke.

Tiny tumbles = rings/earrings.

Tiny tumbles = rings/earrings. A large percent of the glass scraps are easy to break because they are shards. Using a steel pipe say 3 feet long in a steel container (like a large mortar/pestle) and under water to reduce shrapnel and loosing glass. Or better using glass nippers. Diligent use of glass nippers makes quick predictable shapes out of vase shards that tumble out nice. A rotary tumbler full of little 1/2" pieces of glass tumble shape really slow. Best to tumble 50% smalls with 50% 1 to 1.5" pieces and even that shapes slow. And use a fat barrel like an 8 inch pipe size.(8 inch inner diameter). For a heavier grind. High RPM to assist cutting rate.

Haven't wandered through here in awhile, so just saw this.
Nice lookin' pieces. Seems you have that glass tumbling dialed in. Are you doing anything with all this glass you make and tumble? (no need to answer... probably forget about this thread by the next time)

For the most part is neatly organized in small containers by type/color/shape/size in a couple of large roll around tool chests. I will probably end up passing the operation down to my niece. It does sell well at art festivals if made into jewelry. Come around more often. You are missed. How's the foot ?
