Thats a good project. What sort of motor are you going to use? Inside the splash pan is quite a strange place to mount the mast isn't it? Looks like you will need to make a cut out in the splash pan for the girdle cuts.
Good job on it so far.

Well as you can see I really got no clue, I thought it looked cool. I am making a second mast so I can slip it off one then onto the other it will be able to slide in a tract in the outside and I have the ability to adjust the lap up and down. I just love the old machines and I have several different GemLaps. Oh and by the way that's a graves mast and head I think it's called. The lap is a 8 inch I got it with a 6 inch but it looked like it should have had a 8

I forgot to answer the question, I am considering using a D.C. motor with a speed control. 3 phase AC is too expensive for this. And with D.C. I can get pretty good lower speeds and I could facet while driving (just kidding?)

Old sewing machine motors are OK for faceting machines. They are small AC brushed motors, the speed can be quite easily controlled with a standard light dimmer. I like the idea of using a DC motor too, 12V motors are all over cars. Fans, windscreen wipers, power windows, they are pretty robust. A good 12V supply can be made from an old computer power supply, plenty of how tos on the interwebs.

I am a big fan of D.C. power. I plan to convert the house to 24volt a little at a time.
