So sorry that happened to you. If it's any consolation, it's happened to every single one of us.

What you ended up with looks like an ancient artifact! Very clever : ) Now you just need a story to go with it. Nevertheless, I'm sorry it happened this way. Eh, easy come easy go as they say. Really not a huge deal. But I am having fun with this thread.

Well, the first order of business is to find someone to blame. I hope you didn't neglect this important step. Good one! Of course. I blamed myself. Too hard on the poor thing... But I learned my lesson. Hopefully.

So sorry that happened to you. If it's any consolation, it's happened to every single one of us. It's alright. It actually is consoling, I thought I just did something wrong. Maybe too aggressive, made the edges too thin, something. I'll make more, though- not going to let a little setback stop me! However, the experience has given me respect for those of you who cab all of the time with excellent results.

It does happen to all of us. Last week I broke a gorgeous blue moss agate cab - arguably one of the nicest cabs I've ever yielded out of a material that is fairly difficult to work with. I still do not know if I just missed a pre-existing crack - the material is notorious (in my own mind) for hiding fractures along pattern lines - or if it was operator error and I overheated it on the final polish stage. I'm leaning towards a combination of both because it held up beautifully and I never noticed the crack until after the white polish got into it and at that point the cab came apart easily with finger pressure. I didn't take any pictures of it but here are a couple of stills from an instagram video.

Damn, Tommy! That was heart breaking, too. Yeah I'm still kicking myself for not stopping as soon as I noticed the crack and using Hxtal on it. Instead I had to fart around with it and of course it broke easily.

Did you salvage anything? Nope. It went straight to the island of lost cabs.

Nope. It went straight to the island of lost cabs. Poor little guy...😠Mission accomplished... I helped you forget about your troubles and feel sorry for mine instead Seriously though, it happens more than I'd care to admit. It's why I'm super careful (paranoid) to bend and twist and sometimes even drop a piece before I start grinding on it. If it is going to break I want it to happen in my hand and not when it's gotten to looking all purty.

Cabbing with a Dremel can be quite challenging. The braver I get, the more oops occur.

Cabbing with a Dremel can be quite challenging. The braver I get, the more oops occur. You're right about that. Yesterday I was using it on a really cool piece of jasper that I thought would make a nice cab. Then, oops, there went one piece. Some more dremeling to fix that, some more to shape it... Then another chunk came off. It went in the trash. It's ok, though, I'm learning from it all.
