A while ago, WilliamC and I traded some rocks. Here is an awesome piece of rough carnelian with some outstanding banding! This rock is way to pretty to break up and tumble. I have grinded down some of the rougher spots. And, has gone through one week in coarse. Thanks William! Cal

The top picture shows the detailed banding. I wish the other two pictures would have the same detail.
The pieces is about 4" by 3" by 2"; pr about the size of your fist.
I have been reading the board, just not saying anything. Between a never-ending project at work and remodeling at home, I have been very busy lately. The house is almost completed - some sheetrock and putting in a mantle, then cleaning up the house!
I read some other posts about remodeling and you have my sympathy. It is very stressful, barbequing for the last three months and living in a perpetually dirty house that is cluttered beyond belief! But, the end results are fantastic! I left the designing to my wife. All that I was concerned with was the structural integrity of the house.
Now if my project at work every finishes (or I get fired), then I'll be a lot less stressed and more talkative.

Hi Rocky,
On the outside, the front porch/deck was replaced, some siding replaced, re-centered a window that was off center. And, painted the house and decks.
On the inside, most of the kitchen was re-done - hickory cabinets, new track and under-cabinet lights, countertop called Zodiac, and range hood.
In the front room, the woodstove was replaced, the fake river rock facing on the fireplace was replaced with a rock called "peacock rock", not exactly sure what kind of rock, sort of like flagstone or shale. The same rock was used for the hearth and front entry. Bamboo flooring in the kitchen, dining room, front room and hallways. New paint in the same rooms and replaced the doors to the bedrooms and bathrooms.
So far the inside is looking great. All of the credit goes to my wife! I trusted her to use her good taste (as I don't have taste at all).

Can anybody help me understand the rock i.d. involved here?
That's for sure a beautiful rock. It looks to me a lot like a fairburn agate or one of the other varieties that has the beautiful, tiny banding. It also resembles some of the better stuff I've been collecting locally (southeastern MO). Rockshed Shawn looked at some of my photos shortly after I found the stuff and his first comment was that they looked like Fairburns. So what makes this carnelian, rather than one of the named agates? Thanks for any info.
