... three times she bucked and I flew off and ... ummm... what rhymes with 'friends'? Maybe I'll stick to cabbing and leave the rhymes to others.
This was my first Maligano Jasper foray... I typically stay away from materials that are trending heavily but I figured what the heck and I got bid aggressive which isn't typically my style and ended up with a beautiful ... and 3/8" thick ... slab. I don't know if it was just the piece I had but there is no way it's actual jasper - quite a bit softer and more forgiving and took an easy high shine similar to marble which enticed me to cab the entire slab through in one session which is something I don't remember ever doing before.
We started off with a bang though - the material couldn't hold up to my 60 sintered grinding wheel that I usually start on, and the first three cabs broke and ended up a lot smaller and less scenic than when I mapped out the slab. What was lost in scenery was hopefully made up for in quantity when it comes to making my money back from the slab. For some reason the photos take on a matte appearance - in hand the pieces have a very high shine.
And now, other pieces from a very productive last week...
Of course, Burro Creek - more of the agate and a piece of banded stuff I picked up.
Finished two more Needles Blue pieces
Prudent Man plume agate 'red' vein 1
Random schtuff...
Apache Rhyolite - sweet spot from a premium 'old collection' slab I've had for a while
gem dino bone - neat color
Super sparkly blue goldstone. Hard stuff to photograph with out looking like it has a haze on it.
Leopardskin jasper - two variants. The first one has a lovely lavender background color in hand.
Medicine Bow dendritic agate - this is from the slab I was asking for ID help on a few days ago.
Mojave purple turquoise dyed and infused with bronze
Mojave Blue - infused with zinc
Old collection Ochoco moss agate
Blue green moss agate
Polychrome jasper - not my favorite material because it's so prolific but every now and then I do one.
This is my sea floor with shells I've been posting about for a while. I finally came across the material at the San Jose gem show yesterday and the vendor selling it gave me the name as originating from the Purisma Formation. I knew it was a California coast material but it's nice to be able to finally attach a name to it.
TabuTabu brecciated jasper
Wildflowers rhyolite
Carey plume agate - this was a recut - it's been around here FAR too long - time to sell it! haha
Last little scrap of the gorgeous Starry Night jasper I had - almost no blue at all but it's still a nice scene.
Pudding stone
Thanks fer lookin!
