Hi all, Heres three pics of recent events. 1 - a christmas cake from Mum - luckily I live 7 doors away 2 - and three - one of the bird tables i just did for prezzies - in place and ready to feed the hungry birds over winter. Finished it with "ronseal outdoor stain - (5 coats) - no varnish but its good stuff, its more like a paint than a stain and thats a mixture of two colours - one mahogony and the other oak. Total screws - 123 - an odd number, its the 5 supporting ones on the top which makes the number odd. Obviously im a beginner at woodwork, but the next project on that front is a hardwood coffee table. Now the tables are out of the way along with the dust - maybe I can start my tumblers up again. Laters all andy

You did good Andy, real good. Are those houses in the background? I kinda pictured you living near Syd Barret. Way out in the north 40 secluded, and the few homes in the area had thatch roofs. Syd shaved his head. One of the real neat things on this forum, there is nothing like an unposed picture. What we get here is pictures that we are supposed to see. Your backyard looks like a yard in Portland Ore. New Zealand photos look like Floriduh, except for some major differences. Ya did real good. Wood has its challenges. I build boats. I use epoxy and fiberglass over wood. An encapsulation. When I am done, you will never notice the seams being over 3/8" out. Belt sanders, DA sanders, and lots of wood flour and glass tape. Bright finish wood shows every mark. Not too bad. Not too bad indeed. Should get a variety of birds.

LOL Docone31 Thats my younger brothers back yard - it was for him that I build the bird table. My back yard is in the picture with the snow on it a few posts away. You build boats - storming mate. Who knows - one day if I can get some lolly pop together I may want one off you. I'll show you the next project once done and maybe you could be a critic on it for me to show where I mess up? I know where the mistakes are on the tables for sure Andy.

Andy, I cannot even imagine a family that speaks with each other, let alone do things with each other. You even have contact with your mother! Andy, if you could build what you did, you can easily build the boats I do. My next boat for here, is called the OB16. It is composite stitch and glue. I was given a 40hp Evinrude, circa 1968. An oldie but goodie. Dude, if you could build what you did, then the OB16 would be simple. Look up OB16 on search and go to Bateau's site. I think you will be impressed, and confidant. Your miters are the only thing I saw, and that takes practice. I always, repeat, always mess up on miters. No matter how hard I try, one corner is always a little off and that throws the whole thing off. That is why I like stitch and glue boat building. Even I can do it. Oh, yeah. That Christmas cake looks great! My mother could be three blocks away, or three states away. You have no idea how desperately I want to show my mother I am safe, married, happy, and have my own business. My mother still has staggering political clout and it would be the end of life as I know it. That cake sure looks great, and those birdfeeders look like they work. That stain looks wonderful. Real good job.

Da*n that cake looks good, now I have to go find something to eat. I love the bird feeders Andy, I've made a few over the years and your's looks great. I'm sure given some time, you'll attract some birds to it. Usually takes awhile, unless there are other feeders close by, birds tend to stay away from things that are new.

i showed my husband the Christmas caked and had to clean the drool off the couch. said it looked like what his grandma used to make (curved edges) as opposed to his mum's (square edge).
i had it once (Christmas Cake), density of a black star, and sweet enough to put your blood sugar into orbit for 3 days. kinda like Christmas Pudding with Brandy Sauce, a thing we get from relatives most every year..another dark obsession that thankfully only happens once a year.
life returns to normal come monday, i have diet and exercise on my list of resolutions, so i am finishing off the chocolate cherries tonight!

Andy, GREAT job on those, youre really very good at woodworking. And your mum is good at baking, too! Strange, I must have something sweet, and NOW ;D Show us the tables when they are done, or even in the middle of creating so we can see the process.

YUMMMM! I have a serious sweet tooth and I'm thinkin' that cake might help cure it! That looks so good! What a cool cake! Looks like one you'd buy at the speciality shop!
Great job on the bird table! Inspires me to get out and get busy with my woodworking as soon as it is warm and sunny instead of warm and drizzly! But, at least it's warm!
