Started trying to free-form this with the dremel at lunch, here's a picture of the slab and what I accomplished in about 15 minutes. Definitely goes quicker than most of what I've been working with. I got it from a friend of mine. I know I have a ways to go but I think it will be nice.

Quick! I hope you wear a dust mask, though. That is glass, after all.

Quick! I hope you wear a dust mask, though. That is glass, after all. I am, I always do now. I don't have much experience with obsidian- the first batch I've tumbled is due to be finished in the next few days if I remember correctly and I think it will look nice. I do like snowflake obsidian I hope I can do it justice.

Lovely - so do tell - you work the heart shape with a dremel? I would love to know the details, mostly because at our Clubhouse we have a person who is making hearts but in not such a good way - she is cutting and polishing the "notch" on the edge of the wheels, which will ruin them really soon ! I had to be the Bad Guy-Gal and tell it was not a manner in which we want the machines used. So if I can get her dremeling instead - WIN-WIN!!

Thanks and yes for now all I have is a dremel and a couple of tumblers. It takes a while to do but it can definitely be done. A lot of patience, a lot of dipping the stones in water, and a few inappropriate words when the rock chips or fractures. But it can be done. π

That looks great. You are really using that Dremel well. Thank you for the compliment. Some days I wonder π What I'm really anxious to see is how the ones that I've done turn out after tumbling. Then I'll know if the time and effort is worth it. But I figure that either way I'm learning.

If the tumbles do not turn out good, you can always do them again.
I love Snowflake. My cabs and tumbles have been fair to good so far. The cabs have had final polish in the tumbler, using the obsidian recipe on RTH.
I want to elevate the good to excellent, but need to do more experimenting before that happens.
Just learn. Document everything, with photos and a tumbling chart.

That heart is looking awesome! Glad you're getting some rock time at lunch. Thanks! Yep, as Tela said it's what keeps me sane. Or makes me crazier, I haven't decided. π

Stuff will go wrong but there's always more time and more rocks! π
