Haven't been to Arizona since '64. One of these days I gotta make it back. Problem is, I hate to try and go back because it never seems to measure up to my memories. The last time I was at the Grand Canyon I stayed in a park where at night, you had to keep a flashlight with you if you went to the little boys room. The park would be absolutlely full of deer. It has become so poplular for retirees now, that usually means that beautiful vistas turn into golf courses.

Hey Michigan, you were only about 12 when you last visited Arizona, much of the change you would experience would be because you are now much older, rather than from actual changes. It's no doubt vastly busier than in '64, but it hasn't yet been turned into golf courses. The top of the canyon can be a zoo, but take a mule ride into the bottom (or hike it if you are up to it), particularly in the winter months, and you can get back to reasonable isolation. The mule thing... I've never maintained such a high level of fear of imminent death for so long as during the ride down, so that's something to consider if riding big animals that walk on the outside edge of cliffs worry you . Worked out well in the end though, and great exploring in the bottom of the canyon.

well here we go again - 70 today and going to drop to 30 with high winds that yesterday were predicted to be at 80 mph but now they are saying 35 (whew) with tornados and hail. did hold up on getting them started on tearing down some of these old buildings when i heard that about the 80 mph winds - thought God might take 'em down for free and save me some dollars ;D. brett it looks worse on y'all further south - take cover!

Get me your info or something. How much time you gonna have? That will determine alot of where to go, and what are you looking for? Keep in touch, I'd be happy to take ya all out somewhere.

I would love to do the burro ride down into the Canyon, but I know I would have a heart attack or stroke! Just looking over the side makes my stomach do flips and my head swim. I have been a number of times and have discovered the North Rim is my favorite. Not as many people, but can't get there during the winter - or at least couldn't back then. May be different now. It hasn't changed much since my first trip there when I was about 12 - but the traffic has increased a hundred fold. One reason I am partial to the North Rim.

Hey Banjo,
Those are some great photo's ... I love Arizona!
Looks like an exceptional area to be roaming around in.
Enjoy,
John
