I got these rocks at a show yesterday. I am p!anning to make some cabachons once I learn to saw, grind, and polish. Do you think they are Montana agate? I got them at a silent auction part of the show, very little information was provided. Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Not montana agate. first glace says might be banded rhyolite. Second glass says might be some version of banded agate.

Third guess would be travertine; fourth guess would be some sort of siliceous sinter. Pretty, whatever it is. Try a scratch test to eliminate travertine and similar.

Does that seem accurate?

Yep, try a bit of acid on it. If it fizzes it isn't silica (agate or otherwise). Its looks like a carbonate to me (probably travertine). . . but its pretty and will work up easier than if it was an agate.
