I know that some rocks do not handle being heated and it will destroy or change the rock.
Can rocks be damaged by just heating them up to dop or stabilize them? If so, which types of stones might be damaged by that amount of heat?

The short answer is yes, heat can damage some rocks. The worst one I can think of right now is opal, definitely possible to ruin the fire with just the heat required to dop them with wax. That's why I got rid of my dop pot and wax years ago, no reason to use it anymore. I dop with epoxy or double stick mounting tape, depending on material and cab size.
