These are polished rocks collected from the California coast near San Francisco. They are all rounded by wave action even before they went into the tumbler, except for the dark yellow angular ones which I picked up from the cliffs. Lots of reds, browns, greens and yellows. Largest is 2 inches across. My next trip is to Jade Cove at Big Sur, south of Monterey; and to a place I found at Point Reyes north of San Francisco for some good jade. Anybody else like to polish seashore rocks?

How might a person from Ohio get about 10 or 15 pounds of these rocks? Also... in pic 1 and 2 on the far left, (taking a guess red and white), what is that rock? It is so kewl! Is there someone here that could add text to the photo and add the names to these? Thanks Harry

Wow Jon, that stuff is great. Don't have the foggiest idea what it is but I love it! I don't live anywhere near the ocean but I do have access to some pretty nicely tumbled rocks from Lake Superior. Don't recall seeing anything as cool as what you found though, I love the (top pic) yellow/gold ones - top left, the red/white ones just below it (one touching and another 2nd stone down) and the four in the top right. I love stones like that that look like they are pieces of stuff glued together. Those have great shine too. Awesome job, thanks for posting. Maybe next summer we can trade some local rocks. Cher

I do not know what rocks I have here either, I suspect some are feldspar, and some are not very good quality jade (green ones, very abundant along the California coast).
Anybody out there know what species of rock we are dealing with here - must be a way to find out what the common rock types are along the California coast? Or maybe the colors will give some clues?

Hey Harry - guess on my next trip to the coast I could pick up 10-15 lbs. of this stuff for you, and you pay shipping to Ohio?

Jon sounds like a wonderful idea! I would be happy to pay you a dollar a pound or if you would want more? But if you would be happy with me just paying shipping, that's ok also. But if you go out of your way I wouldn't feel right just paying shipping. Gas cost a fortune nowadays! Thanks a million! Harry

Harry and Sandsman1 - email me (you will find my email address by clicking on "Jon" in the first message above) and tell me you want me to get you some seashore rocks like the ones in pics above - with your shipping address - I will charge you for shipping only - maybe 5-10 lbs.
It may be a while before I get this organized, but at least your emails will remind me you want some rocks.

Whoa folks!
Slight misunderstanding here judging by the emails I am getting.
The rocks in pics above are NOT for sale. What I have offered is to collect a bunch of California coast seashore rocks and ship them to folks who request them - you tumble, cut or cab them, not me!
Though as I think about it, I might request that you send me back one nice polished one, or a nice cab or slab, or at least a good pic posted here on the forum - sound fair?

LOL ;D ;D Jon, that's funny. You can't blame us though, you put up pics of such yummy stuff, we can't help but want it. *smile* Bring lots of buckets with you the next time you go. I think sending rocks around will get easier now with that new deal USPS is offering with that $7.70 Priority box, you can put quite a bit in there for the price. Hahahaha, bet USPS wasn't counting on people sending rocks.
Cher
PS ... I'll wait awhile before I ask for some too.

Hello Jon! Just sent you an email and if it gets to overwhelming it would be ok to put me to the back burner. I would love some of them, but it looks like you could make a bit of pocket change here. Harry

The large stone upper right is "ocean jasper" found on west coast of US, usually California and Oregon - vague name, but rock expert friend of mine identified it.
And remember: Jasper is an opaque cryptocrystalline variety of quartz that may be red, yellow, or brown.

Hey Jon. Nice rocks and nice shine also. One of my first batches consisted of rocks I picked up in Morro Bay about a year ago, and alot of them looked like yours. Where'd you go to get these? I'd like to go check that place out myself. I'm in San Jose. What part of the Bay Area do you live in?

WOW! Jon, those are some great looking rocks! How nice it must be to live somewhere close to good rockhounding. I think I would like for you to add my name to the "I want some of those rocks!" list. I think you're gonna need a bunch of buckets! That'll teach ya' to post pics of cool rocks and offer to collect some for somebody! Not many of us here that won't make a trade of some sort for some neat looking rocks to tumble, esp. those of us that live somewhere where neat rocks are not to be found. So seriously, put my name on the list. I'll be happy to pay postage, pay for the rocks AND send ya' a few buckets to collect them in! llana

Stoner - these collected mostly from California coast 5-10 miles south of San Francisco; a few might have come from Morro Bay area (I was there a few months ago, and may have thrown a few rocks collected there into the same tumbler).
I hit the ocean fairly often, but do not keep records on exactly where the rocks in the buckets come from - maybe I should.

llanago - send me an email - that is the only way I can keep track of who wants some. In a few weeks or months, when this thread is long forgotten, I will only have my saved emails to see who asked for seashore rocks.
