I'm getting ready to resume cabbing. My first step is choosing the material, finding the scenes and then deciding if the cab is worth cutting. Unless the scene is exceptional, I have to decide whether to cut it. The slab may be worth more than cabs produced. I found one nice scene to be cut from material that I have plenty. Everything else was problematical.
I think I'm going to start out trying to fix my cutting defects and recut some cabs where something went wrong; cab broke years after being finished and matrix showed up late in the cutting process. I've got a lot of experience recutting symmetrical cabs to free forms. I have 20 cabs from recent work that need to have better girdles. They have areas that need to be sanded and polished. The fine tuning is my Achilles heel.

I have an outdoor coffee next to a chair and pull slabs from boxes to do designs. I couldn't find much to choose from and then I remembered that I cleared the table into a box. I found some stuff to work on and will create some preforms tomorrow.

First work in about a year. The trim saw/me was struggling, but I think I haven't ruined anything yet. The freeform desing will be determined when I'm on the grinding wheels. Left to right, Morgan Hill, dino bone Dryhead, Laguna Lace, Morrisonite, Butterfly wing, Montana.

The MH was a hacked up slab but it evened out to 1/4". First time on the wheels since last July and things went well. I need to mark the girdles and dop. Shapes on top are a little off but the bottoms follow the template and I grind bottom up.
