I haven't had a chance to cut much lately, I've been doing more smithing, but I finally got a chance to do some things and thought I'd share. I ran out of small stones for earrings, so here's what I came up with. I'm looking forward to cutting some larger pieces soon, but for now this is as good as it gets! and one that I've been wanting to play with for a while. A free form labradorite from some rough I collected north of Laramie, WY.

Nice labradorite and what a bonus that you collected it yourself!
How small are those!? Wow! I don't think my fingers cab cab that small. Looks like you did a great job with them and round too- dang!

Thanks rockjunquie I think they are like 12mm. Took 7 hours to cut these and I'm over it for a while! My son and I went up there today and got some more labradorite rough. 38F and blowing about 25mph...not ideal hounding conditions, but we found some nice stuff. More to come!

Yeah, no way I could do those. My hat's off to you. Looking forward to seeing more of your lab.

Labradorite is definitely beautiful. You were out in some tough conditions, I hope you were rewarded for the effort.

OMG! Such dedication and talent. Beautiful cabs. I used to do small cabs, but have not for over 30 years.
I love Labradorite. Also love rock hunting trips in less than ideal conditions.

Nice job on all those little pairs. I hate cutting little stones, although sometimes you just have to.
The labradorite is really nice! I didn't know there was labradorite in WY that you could collect. How awesome!

It sometimes seems like if I wait for ideal conditions to collect in Wyoming, there would be like 2 or 3 days a year I could go

There is some state land just north of Laramie a bit where there is a lot of material...the challenge is finding the flash and then cutting through all of the matrix to get to the goodies... Yes, you are right...cutting little pairs isn't much fun at all!

Maybe not the right place for this, but here is what the rough labradorite from Laramie looks like. The cab I cut above came from something similar. I wish I could find a big sheet of the material there, but I just can't seem to. It takes quite a lot of chopping and cutting to get the piece out of the matrix!

The rough is very interesting. Thanks for posting that pic. Now I know what to look for if I ever make it to Wyoming!
