A friend just called and is looking for a nice sized chunk of magnetite or a nice sized mineral specimen for their sons bday. He is a geology major. Any material or ideas would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

Something native to the area he is from would be cool. How large specimen is he/she looking for?

Some branch copper could be mounted to a piece of wood. Maybe a plaque on it to say location found.

If they're looking for a mystery for him to solve, I have an interesting small chunk that is heavy with metals (5.5" across, but weighs 4+ lbs)... Some interesting vugs and lots of "ites" to identify, too. Unfortunately, it has been sitting around for so long that I can't recall from where it came (likely eastern half of Oregon, though northeast Nevada is also possible). Because of that, they can have it for just the cost of postage (sent from Oregon, Priority Regional Rate A Box) if interested.

Heads up vegasjames. You are a specimen guy, I think. Maybe you've got something?

Heads up vegasjames . You are a specimen guy, I think. Maybe you've got something? Yes, I have all sorts of specimens. I was going to try ans get back my magnetite specimen since that was mentioned. Have a very large one that probably weighs around 50 pounds but someone was selling it on consignment and they closed the business. So I have been working on getting my stones back.
I do have some other specimens, especially of the copper ores, red selenite crystals, various garnet bearing rocks, and some others. All depends on what he is interested in.
