Went to get the Mex Lace today. Wasn't planning on it, but that's how it worked out when I called him this afternoon. Here's some pics Got the boxes to ship them in and am in the process of weighing and sorting them into piles for everybody that wanted some. Will send IM's out when I get that done. Which won't be soon unless I get off the forum and get to weighing!! I also bought a slab of pet. wood from the Pet. Forest in Az. He had a whole drawer full of it. It's old stock - back from before the Pet. Forest became a national park. He bought it from an old guy that had gotten it from the Indians back when they could still collect it. Said he gets $80-$100 for a small cab made out of this stuff. It's beautiful - that's for sure. Needless to say, I WON'T be messin' with it for a while! The areas that look like a glare are part of the rock. Can't wait until I learn what I'm doin' on the grinder and can make something beautiful out of this one! These two slabs - both jasper but he wasn't sure what kind - jumped out of the drawer and right into my hand! He had about 10 drawers full of slabs of all sorts of stuff. I wanted them all! I also got a 100 grit diamond wheel and hopefullly with it, I will be able to do a decent bevel. I am really having a problem with that and I am almost positive it's the grinding wheel because no matter how much I dress it, I can see spots it in that are not smooth. It's so frustratiing to do a great bevel on one or two sides, then one that is awful and have to stop and dress the wheel. Also got the diamond bits I ordered, so now I have everything I need, except time, to get myself in gear. Hopefully soon I will have a cabollana to offer up! llana

WOW!! Llana, that stuff is gorgeous!! You are so very kind to do this for everyone. Those are some awesome slabs you got too ... Did you wear a big bib in there? LOL I can't imagine what that was like, I'd be hawking everything I own for that stuff.

Wow, there is heaven. llana, you might consider sending the pet wood to Sands. If anyone can do it, he can. I think he can be trusted. I would cut it in two, and make cabochets. You can set it later.

Doc, the pet wood is 6" at it's widest point, 3" at it's narrowest, so I should be able to get more than two out of it. I am hoping that with this diamond wheel I will be able to do some good stuff after a few months of practice. I have no doubt that Sands could make a beauty and if after a while I still can't get a bevel right, it will probably go off to him! When he was pulling all those drawers open filled with slabs I was like a kid in a candy store. He had a bunch of cabs and stuff he made with the pet wood and they were beautiful. I got so involved going thru the Mex Lace bins, I forgot to even look at the other rough he had! Probably a good thing since I spent way more than I intended to without looking at the other rough!! llana

He's a fella that BE and I met at the rock show last weekend. He has a shop in Kerrville, right up the road from us. I asked him about where he gets all his stuff. He puts an ad in papers for lapidary equipment, rough, etc. and also buys stuff from rock shops that have gone/are going out of business. He has a pile of rocks sitting next to the house that he just pushed out of his truck and has never gotten around to going thru to see what all was there. It's been there for TWO years! He told me about it and we went out and looked at what all is there. Sheesh, all sorts of PRIMO stuff! He had gone to look at the stuff this guy had from collecting rocks from everywhere for years and saw a couple of pieces of something - can't remember what now and wanted them. Ask the guy how much he wanted for those two pieces and they guy told him he could have the whole shebang for $100.00! He doesn't have a rock shop, but a shop for doing his lapidary work. His wife does beading. He has about 30 bins of various kinds of rough and drawers of slabs, plus the pile outside! He also has one heck of a shop! Has two faceters but doesn't facet. Has a couple of saws and 5 grinders/sanders/polishers set up. Just the drawerful of slabs from the Pet. Forest is worth a small fortune! He has about 150 lbs of Mex Lace - well, after my visit today, 118 lbs. A bunch of nice Brazilian agate and who knows what else. I didn't even look at the other bins! He said to come back anytime, so I guess as long as he has stuff, I can buy it! And that Mex Lace ain't even the good stuff! He has a bin of it that is his "stash" and won't sell. You should see that stuff! WOW! I just went out and checked my mailbox, it's not here yet.Well, don't be holdin' your breath for it! I know I won't get it in the mail until at least Friday. Got to go to the back and get some cash to pay for the postage. And, I'm thinkin' I might want to sit on the floor surrounded by it, drool and caress it before sending it off to everybody! I really am going to have a hard time going thru it and deciding what I want to keep. I promise I won't keep all the really, really good ones! But,, heck, they are all good ones! llana

Lace lovers, we have a problem! I didn't get enough!! I have enough for those that want 1, 3 or 5 lbs, but not enough for the orders for 10 lbs. I just didn't add correctly when I was figuring up how much I needed to get. Not a problem though because I plan on going back one day next week. Will have to call him and see if we can find a good time for both of us. So, I will get enough to send everybody as much as the wanted, there will just be a couple of you that might have to wait a bit longer. Anybody that didn't get in on the first go around and wants some, let me know and I'll get it. For those of you that don't know, it's $3.00 and most of it has great color. Definitely some nice stuff. He also has some nice Brazilian agate if anybody want some of that, but I have to get at least 10 lbs. to get it for $3.00 per pound, otherwise it is $4.00. I will try to figure up the totals for everybody and send every body an IM tonight with their total amount and maybe can get them in the mail tomorrow, but can't promise that. Monday for sure though. The shipping will be $7.70 for those that wanted 5 bls. The guy at the post office said if the package was less than 5 lbs. the flat rate $7.70 might not be the least expensive,so for those that wanted just 3 lbs. I will have to package yours up and see how much it is. If it's more than the $7.70, I will have to unpackage it, repack it in a flat rate box. I'll sent it whatever way is the least expensive for ya'! Sheesh, I'm confused! How 'bout ya'll! LOL! Since the rocks weigh anywhere from 6 ozs (the smallest) to 2+ lbs for the bigger ones, I will have to mix and match to get the weight as close to what you wanted as possible. What I will do price wise is calculate the cost by ounce rather than lbs. You might get an oz or two more or less than you wanted and I don't want to have anyone pay for 5 lbs. and only get 4 lbs. 10 oz or something like that. Don't want anybody to pay for more than they will get or get more than they pay for, so am going to figure it by oz. Geez, that's all gorgeous! Where did it come from? I think I missed something. WOW! cookieYour mind, maybe? You sent me an IM saying you wanted a lb and I got it for ya'! In fact, there is one rock that weighs exactly one lb and it has your name on it! llana
