I have been turning to S/C belts lately when cabbing anything other than the quartzes, agates, or stones of that type on the MOH's. 100,220,400,600,800g and then go to the 1200 and 3000 Novas. Appropriate polish is used on the particular stone when finished.
I have had much better success without having hardly any re-do's due to scratches. The soft drums allow me to push them to make sure I get the whole stone face sanded. I get seven or eight cabs out of a single belt, down the grit scale, and I buy the belts in bulk whenever I find them on sale at K-N or Ebay. I would like to hear other opinions about using S/C vs. diamond wheels.
