Got to get out some yesterday after work and thought I'd share some pics just to show that it isn't completely flat here. Mostly, but not completely. No Fairburns (boo.), but I did find some other stuff I like- plus I got to get out and spend some time with my son so that's always good. Thanks for looking.

Super peaceful! That's one of the main reasons I like to get out there. No one around for miles, we didn't even see a single person the whole time...

It really is. Everyone may not agree but I think so! Loved the time I spent at Husband's relatives places in SW ND. WE also traveled through SD and NB. So much beauty that is overlooked by many. Not to mention the great rocks that are waiting to be found.

Beautiful is in the land and isolation. Nothing really replaces getting away from it all to clear the mind.

Now if I could just find where the Fairburns are hiding out in those miles and miles... The pictures are from the road up above. The walk down wasn't bad but after three or four hours of bending over the walk back up to the vehicle with a backpack full of rocks sure did give me a workout!

My inlaws lived in that area. Had thousands of acres, loaded with great pet wood and other cool rocks. SW of Wishek. I loved the area and was there for about 6 weeks over 15 years. Not to mention the river, which was filled with more rocks than their farm land and many huge Walleye's.

I did some rockhounding in South Dakota in the late ‘80s. I found some cool black skin agates down by Scenic, SD. Her’s the best one I found. Black rind then clear agate with a totally white center.

Nice, thanks for sharing. There's a bunch of places I'm planning on hitting up this Summer, Scenic and that entire area is on the list. I'm thinking I need to get further up into SD- we find a lot of smaller Fairburns (my first love in the rock world) here, but I think the nicer ones are up that way. Still need to go to Railroad Buttes, Indian Creek, Tee Pee Canyon, Oelrichs, etc. I'd also like to go to the Fairburn Agate Beds, even though it's been well-hunted. Of course more are always being exposed and we have lots of places there that we haven't explored.
