Here is my output in a couple weeks. The ovals were easy. Some of the baroques had me pulling my hair out. This machine is definitely production oriented. You can do a lot of cabs in a day.

That's a lot of work. My first machine was a stardiamond with two worn wheels. Cabs were finished with a belt sander and titanium oxide. I felt limited and bought a Genie. Later, I modified my stardiamond machine to have five 8 inch wheels. Cutting with 8 inch wheels is so much faster than 6 inch and the wider wheels make it easier to do larger cabs.

Love the Bruneau's... Glad to see you are getting along with the 8V1. The 8v-1 is a beast. I have had some issues with the 80 and 220 wheels having some big diamond/rough spots on them. The soft wheels are incredible. I almost feel there is no need to go beyond 3,000 grit.

Bruno! Love it! You got a lot done! rockjunquie. Those big wheels are incredible. They still need some breaking-in though. The hard wheels are still making chips on the edges of the cabs. Thank goodness I still have my old 600 grit six inch hard wheel unit. That thing has been a life saver. I would like to replace my 8 inch 220 with a 600 grit wheel. They still cut pretty fast but there are no chips.

I don't like the soft wheel compared to the Nova, though. But, yeah, my 80 grit can get chippy. I have to switch to the 220 sooner than I normally would. Sounds like you are really enjoying yourself. Good for you!

I can't remember how long it's been since I had chipping using hard wheels. I picked up a 60 grit hard wheel on ebay cheap and it would chip. I've been using jadecarver 80 grit and a variety of 220 grit hard wheels. A new 220 will cut as aggressively as a less than new 80. I'm getting ready to replace my hard wheels and my 220 soft. The last 220 soft I got was from Johnson Brothers but I hear their wheels aren't very good now. The 600 and 1200 are in like new condition. The 220 soft is my real workhorse. I'll probably order a Lithuanian 220 soft if they have one.

It’s funny. I can feel and hear the offending diamonds on the wheels. I’ve used some pretty large, heavy agates to try to knock them off. I know it takes some break-in time for new wheels but these have been tough. It’s my first set of 8” wheels. I don’t want to avoid the rough spots on the hard wheels but the chipping has been excessive. I guess I’ll put the big agates on the hard wheels for some more time. The soft wheels are awesome. When I’m done with 3K grit, I almost think the polish is complete. I got two extra polish disks so I can use 8k and 50k grit. The machine came with equipment to go from 3K to a final polish of 14k. The 8k disk is pretty critical to get to a 14k polish. I have a 600 grit hard wheel on my old lortone 6” machine. That 600 grit wheel is still a pretty big player in getting a good dome on the new cabs. I’m thinking of replacing my 8” 220 with a 600 grit wheel. What do you think about the 600 hard wheel vs 220? It’s a lot of money. rockjunquie have you tried a 600 grit hard wheel?
