Number 8 is from material purchased from a huge rock pile I went through in Study Butte, Tx. about 40 years ago. I was looking for Thistle from the Woodward Ranch at Needle Peak that was mixed with material from Mexico. I purchased colorful material even if end chips from larger chunks and this is one sample.

You've had that for 40 years? That's a while!

Did you buy it from the German couple(I believe) that had the Rock Shop there in Study Butte. I believe it's called "Many Stones" now. We went in couple of times back in the 80's and 90's. Henry

HankRocks, this is the shop that the Mexican and Needle Peak material came from. I was suprised that the people than ran the shop spoke with a European accent when I went in to ask what they had and what the prices were. I initially went to this area because I was collecting plume and moss from the Marfa/Alpine/Big Bend section. I should also mention that the cabs show finger smears and lack of proper cleaning.

Did anyone else see a little bird flying around in the middle of these pics. of great looking cabs ? He is right in the middle of a tan colored cab and hard to say if it's a Heron or a woodpecker ! The final polish caught him right in mid wing beat !

Miket, I have some petrified wood from NM and palm from La that I purchased in the mid to late 60's/early 70's that has still not been cut. My rock collection and equipment has been moved from College Station,Tx. to Jacksonville, Fl. to Fort Myers, Fl. to Sonora, Tx. to San Angelo, Tx. and to Austin, Tx. where I now live. I have been collecting or purchasing about 55 years.

I couldn't imagine moving the amount of rocks that I've picked up in the little bit of time that I've been doing this. And I definitely don't have 55 years left, too bad I didn't get into this hobby earlier!

victor1941 are your cabs done on a traditional cab machine first and then tumbled? If so, to what stage do you take them before they are ready for the tumbler? Also, is this to polish the backs easier or do you get a better polish on the face from the vibe? Just curious. Al

Rockindad, I cut and shape on a 60 grit flat lap and remove saw marks on the back and then finish everything in the vibe.
