Here are the rocks that I just got from the Rock Shed, it only took 2 or 3 days from online order to receiving them. With shipping the price was just over $43.00. Smokey Quartz Red Jasper Rose Quartz Aventurine Amethyst Prairie Agate Lace Agate Brazillian Agate Blood Jasper Sorry about the small size of the Brazillian agate picture I tried twice to get it to a better size and still wound up with a small picture. Yeah *sigh* unfortunately for what it cost you for that order, I'd end up paying close to $100.00. I may order a little something from one of our canadian suppliers. Maybe I won't get dinged so much because of the exchange, shipping & customs. But I really enjoy looking at everyone's "loot".

tweetie, all you need to do is to go to South Dakota to the real life Rock Shed. If you page back in the photos, it might still be there from last summer (I don't do rot checks on the posts, but I know that they do rot away eventually.) You can pick up all the scraps you want from Shawn's yard, put em in a paper bag, and he weighs them up and charges a cheap price. I have some of this now that I'm saving for a rainy day....

Hi Puppie Unfortunately, South Dakota is too south of the border for your frozen neighbours to the north - I may be down to Florida next december, near Disneyland - any rocks in Disneyland?

Tami, you have some beautiful stuff there, it's going to be awesome polished.
Hey Tweety, another good source of rock is to go to your local garden center and buy landscaping rocks. I think it was Cookie that polished some her mom had gotten and they turned out great.
Puppie ... We you able to id them as you picked them up or just an "I don't know" mix?
Cher

Nice looking rough Tami. The rose qtz and amethyst are fractured as most of that type of material is but with a little TLC you'll do just fine. Thanks Tweety, Here's a link to some Canadian rockshop: www.canadianrockhound.ca/dealers_lapidary.htmlHope it helps,,,,,,,,,,,, Tom

Thanks for the link Connrock, it was very helpful, I wrote them all an email asking for information as some don't have pictures on their website. I also PMed Skipper for info on Kensgem - I found out the hard way that shipping from US to Canada is tooooo expensive about $25 for 1.5 lbs of rock. If I can't find an inexpensive place to get stones & grit from, I may have to give up on this tumbling hobby - my daughter was so happy when I gave her a stone keychain.

Cher, most were easily identifiable -- rose quartz, aventurine, etc. It was, after all, the same stuff he was selling in larger pieces and he was there to help out with mystery rocks. He said this stuff gets thrown in the yard because he doesn't consider it good enough to sell online -- too small, mainly, but it didn't seem too small to me for tumbling purposes! I'm in San Diego and I've only seen a few rocks to pick up. Yesterday I picked up some colorful gravel on the beach. Or rather, high up more in the dune area where there was some vegetation and some constructed stuff (storm drain outlet etc.) Not clear whether this was brought in type gravel but it appeared probably so -- it wasn't rounded like beach stones. I picked it up because of the pretty colors that I liked. I don't know what it is but I know that I've collected much of the same in other places -- familiar looking green rock mostly.

The last batch of Rose Quartz I did was just as fractured and it came out very nice. Has anyone ever seen a completely clear rose quartz? Tami
