Started this one today, I liked the mixture of different colors of blacks, browns and whites. The more I grinded on it the more those went away and I was left with shades of whites only. You can't really tell in the pic but in the bottom right half there are some swirls with a tinge of color that might be interesting the further down I go... Here's pics of the back and front. In progress. Thanks for looking.

Agates do that and that makes choosing them for cabbing difficult. I've seen nice colors on the skin and little colors on the inside. Like an Easter egg.

A lot of things are more interesting on the outside my friend. I'm not giving up on it, though, I'm going to see it through. If I end up with a bland cab that's just white I don't care- as long as it's shiny.

I have cut more rock than I care to remember that looked great on the outside and was ho-hum inside. Once in a while though, one knocks my socks off. That keeps me loving finding out "what's inside?". ;-)

Hello Mohs,
I would have been thrilled to cut that rusty white one open- just what I'm looking for. I see you are in Arizona, is that where you found the big white limestone?
I will keep my eye out for rust stained rocks more!
Thanks, Bob

Thanks, Al Hi Al All I've been using is the tire burrs, right or wrong. They seem to do everything I need. The sides of the burrs work great for shaping and the flat part works well for finishing them. A friend of mine sent some for me to use and I really like them. Mike

Thanks, Bob Hi Bob Yep found in the Phoenix area in the Salt River Bed it was an alluvial roller probably broken from some limestone hills from a more northerly location Funny how I remember how the sun glinted of it As remarked: in my naiveté I was surprised When I sliced it open. Thought that brownstone went deeper there is lots of it out there Ed

Finished grinding this last night, into the rotary it went this morning. I think it will turn out nicely.
