Most people use a hosting site then post the BBCode for the pic, which posts the picture on the site without using up I guess bandwith or whatever for the site.

For example I use Flickr. I upload my photos there then click on the photo, then share. I copy the BBCode and paste it in my post. When I post the actual post the pics appear in my post.

I just wrote this in a PM to another member but thought I would also post it here in case it clears the air a bit.

Hi, the short answer is because your harddrive is not directly connected to the internet and you would not want it to be because everyone in the world would have direct access to your computer - passwords, private information, banking, etc. In order to share pictures on the internet you have to move the photo on to the internet.

Unfortunately the Proboards software package that our founding fathers created this forum on does not handle photos very well directly, thus our members have always had to use an intermediary service (3rd party photo host) to accomplish getting the photos off the computer and on to the internet. The 3rd party host that we have found so far that is best suited to integrate with our forum environment is Cloudinary. The initial setup is confusing but once it's done uploading photos is super easy - drag and drop from your desk top.

Thanks for this advice. I tried it and it worked great!
