Today was told that these two Fairburns are worth at least $200.00 each. They were purchased from Roiger Clark and pictured in the first edition of hi Fairburn book. miket what do you think? The entire shelf, I was told is worth about $2000.00, as many were purchased from Roger.

Think I did an excellent job of maintaining composure. There were times I would pick an item out of a crate and look at it. Most of the time, he asked me what it was. We discussed the difference between Lapis and Azurite. Chrysocolla, Gem Silca and Turquoise.
Sometimes he handed me a 3-4", polished rock and said I was holding a $100.00 rock.
I faltered a little when he showed me some of the display items in his living room. There was one concretion, about 8" long in a sort of boomerang shape. The formations were vertical on the surface. Let him know I had never seen anything like it before and that he had a treasure.
It was a great overall experience.

A much needed escape and a new, local connection made in the crazy world of lapidary.

I misread the title on this thread and thought you might have bought two baby Fairbairn knives, as described in the WWII novels by W.E.B. Griffin: 'The Corps'. LOL Love the pictures of the Fairburn Agate, so I was not disappointed. Thanks for sharing. They are beautiful.

Sorry fernwood I just saw this. Wow, I'm jealous! So cool that you got to see that. I wouldn't say he's too far off on the valuation. Especially considering the source. If you look on ebay and such some people have them listed as "fairburn type" agates and I think try to pass some of them off as something they're not. But from what I've seen they can get pretty high up there. If you look at this page on The Rock Shed's website he has the one on the bottom listed for $700. I think I've found some that are better than that but different colors, host rock and number of bands affect the value from what I understand. Anyway here's the link: www.therockshed.com/agates3.htmlOn a side note, I understand that Roger Clark's wife just recently passed.
