Not angry mind, you. I told my brother what happened because he was here and he said he didn't even hear me yell cuss words. 'Cause I didn't. Too broken hearted. I had a slabette of real nice rutilated quartz. I got a big freeform pear outta it. Then I noticed some impurities in the tip. I decided to knock the tip off. Here's the abbreviated cab next to a sister slab. I worked on it real hard to orient the fine rutile. I got a nice shape ans had a perfect polish on the optically pure quartz. I decided to take it to the 100k spin on. It got pretty hot, but that's not what killed it. It came off the dop and dropped into cold water! ARGH! The fracture is on the inside. I was so sad because it was so pretty. I put ca glue on the back just for pictures because I didn't want to polish it just for pictures, but it looks all bubbly. Anyway, I hope you can tell how sweet it would have been. It is full of fine separated golden hair. None broke the surface. Happens to us all, I guess. I haven't decided if I want to save it as a ring stone. I already wasted so much time on it.

I love that material and feel your pain from here! It is still really kind of cool looking and I bet in the sun it is gorgeous I'd still keep it

I feel your pain, crystal Quartz has a bad habit of doing that.

I feel your pain, crystal Quartz has a bad habit of doing that. Yeah, I should have known better. I hesitated at the 100k and did it any damn way.

I'm sure you'll come up with a great save for it!

Oh I hate that for you. I’ve wanted to work with that material for a while now. Some days it’s hard to be thankful for what’s really important. Like the bucket of water that came magically from the faucet, that didn’t have to be hauled from the well, up hill.

I know quartz crystals do not like rapid temperature change. A couple of the old Arkansas diggers have warned me about pulling any large points out of the cool ground and setting them in direct sunlight, they can develop internal fractures. The same for cleaning, never put cold crystals into hot water.

Ah crap! Sorry about your cab, Tela. Leave it be and then cut it into an awesome ringstone later when you can look at it without crying.
