Well, here's my second batch of 2005 out of polish. Got lots of much needed tiny ones for my walking sticks in this batch. Get a great shine on these. These went alittle over a week in 220. a week in 500, then were moved to the vibe for 2 days in 700, 4 days in 1200 and then I put them back in the rotary for 16 days! I forgot about them! This is the first batch I have polished in the rotary in a while. Wanted to do a comparison with those polished in the vibe. I am learning how to get one of those James and Banjo shines! llana

Sweeeeeeeeet! Nice job Llana! I love the reds on those, and the polish is great. You have a plethora of color there. I bet they slip right out of your hand, huh? I'd like to sit and pick through those for about an hour, Ohhhh how therapeutic it is.

Thanks everybody! I think this is the best shine I've ever done. Now that I am learning the trick to it, I hope that all my future batches turn out this shiney. Tweetie, I don't know what that green one is. I got a small rock of that stuff in a box of 35 lbs. of rock I ordered when I first started tumbling. I really like it and wish I knew what it is so I could order some more! Stefan, that round one in the middle is one I cut and shaped on the grinder to top off one of my walking sticks. I had already tumbled and polished it and have no idea how it got in this batch. It got ground down too much for the top of the stick I intended it for, but have another one that is fits perfectly one. KD, all of those you mentioned are Laredo agate. I got three big chunks of it during the summer fir $.50 a lb. Still have quite a bit to cut up. I think it is really pretty. What are they all? LOL, that's too funny! Who knows! There is some agatized pet wood, cookie quartz, green adventurine, pet palm wood, flint, jasper, red tiger eye. That little blue piece just left of the middle in the first pic is a piece of glass, I think. Although I don't know where it came from or how it got in there! Or it is a sapphire - I used sapphire gravel for fill with this batch. guess I better take a good look at it and see exactly what it is. Would hate to glue a sapphire that size and color on a walking stick and sell it for $10 bucks! ;D I polished these in the generic polish I got from the local rock shop. I have always been happy with this polish, but this batch is the best one yet. Think its due to those extra days in 1200. Have a load in Tripoli for the second day now in the vibe. Am going to do 4 days in it, then go to polish. I might ever get brave and try the alum. oxide polish I have. I have NEVER been happy with the shine I got with it, but maybe with a couple extra days of Tripoli I will have better results. Banjo, I'm so proud of this batch! The shine is almost as good as what you and James turn out! Ya' better get your shades for the next batch now that I'm getting the hang of it! Now that I have some little rocks, I will get some walking sticks done and post some pics. llana

Awsome job llana! I love those colors! beautiful shine too. I've been doing some experimenting lately. I see that you went from 500 to 700 to 1200. Rather than going all those steps, I've discovered that if you just leave the stones in 500 for the same aount of time, the grit breaks down comparably to those grit. Just use a little more grit than usually and let'em roll. Or vibe...

Amazing job Llana. Alittle extra time goes a long way in getting that wet look on the finished stones. I like the wide assortment of colors you have there.

PS. I got the Mex Lace today and it is very nice looking stuff. Thanks again.

Great job on these, same as on your first batch for 2005. Very nicely tumbled and great shine, but what really catches my eye on both batches is the incredible range and vibrancy of the colours. These would be real eye-catchers sitting in a bowl, or whatever else you choose to do with them.
