While Spring cleaning out a couple of storage bins, I ran across some old Banded Amethyst, chips, Iron Quartz and Citrine rough, purchased from the Rock Shed in November 2017, that were set aside due to their very poor and fractured conditions. Decided to take them to the diamond disc's and clean-up/shape to a reasonable condition for the vibe. Roughed them out on a 90 grade and started 120/220 Sic cycle.....:
Dry after 120/220- 24hours
Ready for the 500 AO cycle
They're in the Pre-Polish stage now.......will shoot a few after polishing and post here later.

Hopefully you have great luck with that material...… I tried it once and most of it fractured... A few pieces turned out nice though...

Hopefully you have great luck with that material...… I tried it once and most of it fractured... A few pieces turned out nice though... Ya......luck will play a part.
They're in polish now........over half are showing signs of slight under-cutting where the stone matrix changes........this batch was a set-a-side originally due to the rough fractures it had originally. I did my best disc shaping and clean-up prior to 1st stage vibe, tried real hard not to lose to much original volume on each piece and highlight the best features with angle grinding.........but, as with this type of material, imperfections are going to pop-up through the process on larger stones unless I would have grinded them down to nearly 1/2 their original size.
Gives me an appreciation for you guys that cab, chasing a real nice feature only to end up losing volume/shape due to imperfections that show up accentuating the stones beauty........!
I'll be satisfied if I get 1/2 dozen that really stand-out.........they'll be real shiny though, based on what went into the final polish........lol

Done.......Had to cut short the polish cycle, imperfections, that raised their little heads during the 500cycle, became more pronounced during polish......got 7 which show nicely........will shoot a few solo's later, over direct LED concentration........Amethyst refracts so nicely when faceted (my poor example of angle grinding) properly....lol
Dry......!

Made some time to shoot just a few that show nicely, natural, lit and both.....examples how (what was very very rough fractured material) can end up, with amateur ability/patience, equipment and photo skills (nothing shop'd).....................Thanks for taking a peak.!
