I've been busy today making a base, table extention and water drip system for my drillpress. The drip system looks like it's tilting but it's really the photo angle. While I had the camera in my hands I took a few photo's of some of my rough,my sink in the shop and for the "lace" lovers I took a photo of a beautiful lace slab. The shop aint clean ,,,,but it's mine!! Thanks for looking,,,,, Tom ------------------------------------------------------------------ photos.imageevent.com/tcknkk/myrockshop/websize/drill%20close-up.jpg[/img]

Tom, you gotta straighten out the flex shaft. I worry about the torque on the foredom that close. It has a lot of power but the flex shaft is too tight. Use the wire bracket that comes with the motor and hang it from the ceiling, or a pole on the table. It will work better. Love the water drip. I attached the spigot to the faucet and use low pressure to control drip. How do you keep your shop so neat? Don't you work there? Kidding, looks great. I love the #30 handpiece. Be careful when inserting the handpiece onto the shaft. A lot of jewelers use power to instal the shaft. It burns out the end. Just push it down and then use the foot pedal. Great rig

Stefan I use water with an additive called Wateraid by Diamond Pacific. Sands, That's about the cleanest spot inthe whole place!!Notice you didn't se any tumblers,a Genie,Flat laps or saws!!That's where the REAL mess is. The drip is a long used method by many lapidaries. It's used a lot in rock carving as well. Doc, The flex shaft is just there for show and tell to take the photo.Notice the piece of plywood behind it.That's to hide the rest of my mess,,,,I mean shop!! LOL Tom

Only in my dreams, but someday I'll have it. Not nearly as organized, but, you know... Drip design by Leggo? Is that something conventional or of your own creation? My saw just has a tube, a resiviour and a screw to open and close, and it seemed to work fine 'till I burnt out the second motor The blade was dull from burning out the first motor and and I just pushed it too hard. I hope I can buy another motor only, the last one was under warrenty but I'm not going there again cookie

Cookie, No the drip system has been around for a very long time. Most rotating flat laps have used it from the beginning. I sometimes submerge the whole rock/slab or whatever if i'm drilling the same type pieces. Sands, I got the flex from work when we were closing down one of our plants. I have other ways of making one if you want??I have all the makings for it too. Kim, The purple you're seeing is a reflection on a container with Ohio flint in it. Some of the others are various jaspers and agates. One milk crate is just Montana agate. Most of the filing drawers have slabs in them of all types of rocks. That's only a small portion of what I have though. It's scattered here and there and everywhere. But,,,,,,,,,, I WANT MORE!! Hey Tom,
I wish my shop looked as good as your's!
We finally found someone to purchase my wife's ceramics shop and we have been moving her stuff out and I have dreams of being in her shop by summers end! Maybe I can get some methodology to my rock shop ...as right now it looks like a mine shaft has caved in ;D
Great set up! Thanks for sharing the photo's ...

Hey John,,,,, I didn't show you the "real" working part of the shop!! I've been "organizing" for over 7 years and and just can't get it done. I've been laid off from work these past 3 weeks and still haven't made a slight dent in the "mess".It's back to work Monday and that will be the end of "organization" again!! LOL I wish you luck with your shop and I sure hope it's big enough!!LOL Tom

hey tom after seeing how you did that i was thinkin bout a generic set up hahaha made real cheap im wonderin do you think i could take a piece of hanger wire and run it through a piece of airline tubing and hookit up to a jug like yours and this way i could have something ridgid to be able to set the drip so it will stay where i need it --- can you picture that ? think it will work?

Yea John you're headed in the right direction but if you can use ss wire instead of the coat hanger it won't rust up on you. And yes I can picture it!! LOL Tom

Sands, a 1/8 IP petcock, and some copper tubing with a compression fitting is all you need. I have almost never had to fine tune the drips so one adjustment will do. You can use a tupperware juice container for water. Use an 1/8 IP thru hull for going through the container. Other wise, a plastic tube with a clothes pin for controlling the amount of water. It will stay real close to where you put it. Keep it simple.
