i ordered this from Kingsley North and to be honest wasn't pleased with it when it arrived as the pieces were all a little on the large size. so i cut up a few pieces to balance the barrel and was pleased to find what was inside. i also threw in some do-over rose quartz and some of WarrenA's stubborn carnelian (bottom pic). this batch spent 3 weeks in coarse, 2 weeks in 120/220, 2 weeks in prepolish and two weeks in Aluminum Oxide. i'm pleased with this batch, despite the discoloration in some of the stones. there are a few more coming up that got left in coarse even longer (these were pretty gnarly old stones). thanks for looking! KD

Very nice job again, KD. Well photographed too! I really like amethyst. That carnelian is ace too, and some of it seems to have quite distinct banding like agates? I'm worried that you keep increasing the length of time in each stage .... takes too long already, don't make us go there with you!

AMAZING- My daughter is gonna freak when I show here those pics. It's her birthstone (yes there is some in the tumbler now) I was surprised at the banding in the Amethyst- Don't think I've seen it that strong before- Awesome job-

BEAUUUUTIFUL!!! Great job! That banded and/or chevron amethyst is different. I LIKE it! Going to have to get some of that. The carnelian looks like candy! Jimmy

Hey KD, I think that the extra time is paying off. I like to run at least 10 days in pre-polish before I go on. When you use 600 grit and let it go extra long, it's like adding a 1000 grit stage. Great work!

HOLY COW ... KD!!!!!!!
Now you've done it ...
I have some Cheveron Banded Amethyst in my tumbler as we speak, and I am already getting the NEED for MORE ;D
You have a wonderful finish on that batch of BEAUTIES!!!
Hopefully mine will turn out half as nice as your did. They were slabbed and riddled with fractures ... so, I busted them up and threw them in the tumbler.
Thanks for the fantastic photo's ... I have to go and change my shirt ... all this drool is really nasty!

Superb Job KD! That Chevron Amethyst is much nicer than what I recieved from The Rock Shed (a bunch of Brazilians knocking the stuffings out of geodes). There is so much less fracturing and much more color. The shine is exquisite and you definately have that part of it nailed! Love that Carnelian as well. Oh yeah, nice photos too, those macros work really well on these pics. All around A+++job. (kinda like an e-bay buyer, huh?) Well I guess it IS positive feedback ;D.

I side w/ Banjo on the amethyst statement. My amethyst order from the Rock Shed wasn't too good. I did have 1 piece that had some nice banding. Lots were heavily fractured and not too colorful. Please Tell, Where did you pick it up? thanks, Gaetz

WoW .... absolutely stunning. Man I sure hope mine turn out that nice. I have 3 days left to make it to 10 days, don't think I will ever make it to 2 weeks. That's just way too much torture. What's the odd shaped blue stone in the bottom pic? I like it!

They are all just really lovely. What a great job.
Question: I've asked this before but nobody answered...I'm wondering how you distinguish carnelian from jasper or agate?

thanks for all of your kind remarks, makes all that waiting and tablespoons of grit worthwhile! my first ever batch had amethyst, rose quartz and green adventurine and as first batches go, it was pretty much crap. the amethyst fractured pretty badly and i never thought i would order any again. but the picture on Kingsleys web site looked SO nice!
Gaetzchamp, as i mentioned, i got that amethyst at Kingsley North but wasn't happy with it UNTIL i sawed some up.
Cher, that greenish-blue lump in the bottom shot is a do over piece of moss agate that has been tumbling for a long while. to the right of that is a piece of green quartz i got from Banjo.
Puppies, i'm not sure how you tell Carnelian from agate, althoughit looks more "quartzy" than jasper. i just received an order of carnelian from Kingsley and it is almost champagne colored.. go figure.
