The other day I was recharging a barrel of rough, picking a few out that could move on and adding a little more to the mess. I picked out this piece of rose quartz, here's a pic of how it looked when I first got it (an ebay buy). When I picked it up yesterday, I thought, there must be something in this rock ... Took a little while but my dremel and I found a teardrop in there. You can see the color, it's really a nice pink, can't wait to see it finished. It's in 120/200 now, only five more weeks .... Thanks for looking, Cher

Thanks KD ... I'm praying it survives too. I didn't use anything, just started carving away with the dremel. The pic on top that shows the teardrop shape, I just put that on there with my graphics program to give an idea where it would have been. I didn't really start out with a teardrop in my plans, it just turned out that way.

Thanks all. I forgot to put something by it for scale, it's about 1.5 inches long and about an inch wide. Being that it's past the "shaping" stage, it shouldn't lose too much in size. Now I just have to come up with an idea for wrapping it. I don't know when it'll get done, but I'm thinking it's calling for sterling silver wire. Somehow, I can't see gold on it ...

OOOWW Cher, that's gonna be PRETTY! Of course, if it were me, I'd put a bell cap on it, but I can't wrap to save my life. Can't believe you did that free hand, great job! I put the dremel to some quartz coming out of 120 last night (cracks and fractures). Forgot how much fun it is ;D I'll be grabbing the dremel (like drill) again soon.

Here here, can we have info on bits please !!!!
I got a dremel for christmas but have hardly used it yet, I cant find anywhere that sells diamond drill bits for drilling through rocks. What sort of bit did you use to grind that shape?
Thanks
It looks great, and will be fantastic when its polished up !

From what I understand they are actually called burrs. I got mine on eBay for about $10.00. They come in sets of 20 or 30 (all of the same grit) with various shapes tips. I got 40 grit ... wanted something that would really dig in and remove stone for shaping. If you're careful, they will last to do several stones each ... very light touch and a coolant like water, bursaver or oil, I've only use water with mine.
I use a container deep enough that I can keep the bit and the stone under water. Yes, it sprays a little but if you're careful and align your hands right, the spray just hits your other hand. This keeps the burr cool and clean and it works much better than just dipping the stone in water.

I'm sorry Stefan, yes, they are Diamond Burrs. I'm sorry if I missed your previous question ... Yes, I do "collect" Lake Superior Agates, but not to save as a "collection" like one would put on a shelf. I go out looking for them for polishing (and don't find near as many as I'd like too find ;D ). I can't wait until this awful snow is gone, and the gravel pits have thawed out so I can go again.
Cher PS ... Thanks for the compliment on my sites.

Thanks RoseBud I saw some diamond burrs on ebay so I think I get some. BTW: I will post some pics of my wrapping (if you can call it that lol) like you suggested on the other thread but I'm just waiting for hubby to upload them to his web space for me. Have to get my nagging hat on
