For unknown reasons sales on ETSY exploded after April 15th 2019 in direct relation to views. Increased views are #1 impact on increased sales.
Demand and interest seems to be increasing since no changes have been made to the website and no increase in marketing efforts.
Advertising is done only thru a WIX website that is linked to an ETSY shop and seems to be doing a great job. Clients can find the website but the purchase tab is linked to ETSY.
WIX and ETSY are partners making for an easy purchasing arrangement and a simple non-commerce website and ETSY's financial services.
Shipping/maintaining materials to sell 45 typically larger fire pits say 36, 42, 48 inch units in May was a bit demanding.
It only takes 4 days for the part time welder to fabricate this many pits. He is fast and gets paid well on a per piece arrangement.
30 and 36 inch pits are picked up here by Fed Ex. 38, 41, 42 and 48 inch pits must be delivered to the freight dock 10 miles away.
My wife handles the shipping arrangements and carries the pits to the dock after I load them on a pick up truck.
I am in charge of inventory, scheduling, handling customers, and all other details.
Between wife and I it takes about 30-40 man-hours total per week for a busy month and most of that time is on Monday and Tuesday.
Freight orders on Monday, Fe Ex pick up on Tuesday. We have a great system/team as long as I do what she says.
10 models, 2 - 30", 2 - 36", 1 - 38", 1 - 41", 2 - 42" and 2 - 48". The 36" and 42" are bread and butter.
We no longer need to speculate in buying bowls and can buy each size in 100 QTY to get better pricing.
The larger bowls can cost close to $200 each making for substantial inventory expenditures.
A specific design copyright targeting the use of selected standardized parts was established that offers some protection from copycats.
The shipping is by far the largest cost. Low volume is much more expensive than high volume.
Shipping one large fire pit to say a remote home owner's location from Georgia to a mountain region in N California can cost more than a 10 ton bulk shipment from a steel plant in NE US to SE US.
Going thru ETSY allows bulk discounts for Fed Ex. A big help.
Entering the 4th year of internet sales and about 1000 pits sold on ETSY. Gave up selling on Houzz.com, their customers are fussy go figure. Overly particular is best way to describe.
Sales were down for 2019 till May recharged things.
