Sierra may not be a Hound, but she has found many special rocks and given them to me. If she is unsure of a rock she finds, she just encourages me to follow her to it. Touches her nose to the rock, then looks at me. I pick it up and examine it. Compliment her on the find. Then take it inside and wash it. Show her what it looks like clean. I verbally tell her what it is. She is very good at understanding spoken words. In the past, I had a pile of rocks for her to reference. The pile had fossils and oolites in it, plus an agate. If she recognizes the rock/fossil she has found, and it is small enough, she will pick it up in her mouth and bring it to me. Deposit in my hand. She is getting great at recognizing fossils and Oolites. Once, she picked up a 3.5" fossil and gave it to me. I have posted this photo before, but for those who are new here, this is my rock hounding dog. Sierra. Taken where we used to live.

A couple more photos from today. These show her rock hounding locations. Do not worry about the empty water dish. This is her heated, winter one. She has two, larger ones that are not in the photo. the second photo shows her other rock hounding location and house. She gave me a few more today. One Oolictic and one fossil. I love my Sierra, whether she finds rocks for me or not.

In dog years she is in her 80's, but a very active puppy in all respects.

Wonderful having a rock hounding dog.
Our cat just brings us lizards and birds.

Beautiful Dog, neat she shares your hobby ! We had a Cat also a retriever , it liked to play fetch with it's new toys when we bought them. It was not uncommon to wake up with a very wet and live mouse in the middle of your bare chest with a big eyed Cat wanting you to play with the new toy she found !
