I used to drink a beer that was made in Utica, NY. It was a microbrewery, called Saranac I think. They made some good beer, but they were bought out and are no more. Ron

Utica Club Brewery is still in operation as Matts Brewery and still making Saranac beer, among several other micro brews. the brewery is open for tours and Schultz and Dooley mugs are still available ("Sixty years behind the times and That's the way we like it!"). that used to be one of the places my parents would always take out-of-town friends when they came to visit, couldn't have had ANYTHING to do with the two FREE beers they offered at the end of the tour. i think they've stopped that practice now and serve root beer instead! i don't think they do the trolley ride anymore either.. i've never heard of panning gold around here, although i am going rockhounding for garnets once the snow melts (in May?). Oh man free beers- Boy in my drinking days I woulda loved that- I now remember that we had that garnet collecting disscussion when I first joined this board (so my mind is not what it used to be) I don't know how our winter has been but ours was really great until this week- We are up to 18 inches of snow and more on the way- course monday we are looking at 40s and rain! I tumbled some Adirondaks garnet- pretty fractured but turned out ok.

WOW nice- You found a nice piece- most of the stuff I have is so fractured- There are a couple of nice chnks but it loses so much volume in the grind that I hate to tumble it!
