Spoke with someone yesterday who makes mostly copper jewelry. Heard her tell one person that the copper came from the UP of MI.
She also adorns some earrings with beads made from UP rocks.
Came back later. She told another person that she was certain it was UP copper, as the copper was from a roof that was removed from a shed there. Hmmmm.
She flattens the copper. Then hammers a texture into it. Domes some pieces. Uses a small rotary tool to put a hole in the piece. Then uses a small saw to cut out very detailed shapes of birds and animals. Removes all rough spots by hand and does a final polish by hand. Estimates total time for for a pair of earrings is over 10 hours.
She also had some bracelets. Explained the process to make a bracelet with copper shapes soldered on it to a customer. The bracelet was about $150.00. She said she had about 20 hours of time in it.
Later, her and I got a chance to talk. We discussed various equipment and how versatile a rotary tool can be.
I will be talking with her again today. Maybe working out a trade, as I am drawn to a certain pair of earrings.

Worked out a trade, for a pendant. It is the round, domed pendant with Eagle head. I want to secure the copper pendant on top of a cab. (somehow). I just got the pendant, no chain.

You should see the intricate hummers, trees, cat tails, moose, Lake Superior/Michigan, UP and other items. I love how she is using an old roof to make jewelry. This is a labor of love, something I think we can both appreciate. The Eagle pendant on a silver plated chain, was priced at $80.00. I told her about some of the diamond dremel bits I have and other bits that could reduce the time needed for her creations. One of her most time consuming tasks is hand smoothing/polishing the back and front of areas cut.

Nice. Yep, the labor of love part I completely understand. Hopefully your tips help her out.
