So I got this nice piece of palm root from rockjunquie . Here's some pictures of my progress on one of the pieces after some fractures and pits, I think I've changed the shape two or three times. I hope I can save it, it's beautiful. Thanks for looking.

Working around issues is always disappointing, but you got a nice looking cab out of it. I had always intended to make a rectangular cab from that bottom piece sticking out. If you still have it, maybe that will work better for you. The black with some of the blue looks nice, too.

I don't see it as a disappointment at all! I like the shape that I ended up with... Besides, I see it as a challenge. It's helping me to learn and gain experience. 😀 Thanks for the compliment (and the beautiful slab) , Tela! Yep, that little rectangular piece is on my workbench waiting for me to start on it tonight and the big black and blue piece is next in line.

Here's a couple of pics of the rectangular piece that I cut off rockjunquie ... This one is playing nicely. A lot of the black on the end broke off but the rest of it is way more stable. I think this one will be fantastic when finished. Before and after, thanks for looking.

I really like that rectangular shape. Great job on that one! Thank you, ma'am! I worked on it a bit more last night and into the rotary it went. I'll check it in a few days and see how it's progressing- I don't leave the "cabs" that I make in course grit for very long. I started on the larger black piece last night, hopefully I can do something with it as well...

I think that you did a really nice job creating some freeforms out of the rock remnants. A real save. I would pick the rectangular one. I think it has all kinds of character and possibilities. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing! Thanks Bill. All I do right now are freeforms, some are good, some aren't. We'll see how it tumbles!

I don't know, Mike. It already looks really shiney. Or maybe it is just the light. Can't wait to see how it ends up though. What a great material. The Palm Root looks like something I would like to find some day. I will have to see what part of the country it can be found.

I looked it up and can't remember where it comes from but I did see some pretty amazing pieces. It should polish nicely.

Here's the next piece, I finished shaping this one last night. No rock hunting this weekend so I got some garage time in after work. I think I have one more small piece left of the slab to work. The picture doesn't show how beautiful it really is, I can't wait to get it polished. Thanks for looking.
