I've got stuff that has been sitting around for a while that I don't know much about. I have this piece of variscite (I assume) that is over 1/2 inch thick on the left side. I was going to trim the knife edges and cut it vertically getting the thicker part, mark the edges and split on my trim saw. Is it good enough to make better cabs?

Yup. Lucin variscite in that pattern sells well. Not as high-priced as Clay Canyon/Fairfield/Amatrice Hill, but still nice prices. I'd cut it while you remember how to deal with the softness.

Thanks for the information. As I mentioned before, my wife bought a variety of lapidary material over 10 years ago. I cut what I preferred and sorted everything that I could identify into cigar boxes. I have other variscite that looks pretty vanilla. This piece was different. I'll make some slabs and play with scraps. I've heard of Lucin but wouldn't know how to identify it. I went to the variscite box and found some Lucin slabs and the stuff that I had no interest in. In the first picture there are two slabs in a baggy labeled HARM, bottom row left. URL=http://imgbox.com/uOUBliat] [/URL]
