I purchased an agate ring that is really pretty and i have grown fond of it for he past year but it has a crack on top and a gap that has been taking away the beauty of the ring. I tried to seek help from local jewellers but most said agate is a soft stone and i have to find a new stone for me to fix the ring but looking through your threads i found there is adhesives that actually fill gaps and cracks but none of them where talking about already cut stones only slaps any ideas, help will be greatly appriciated as i am no expert in stones. Thank you

Welcome to the forums.
I'm not sure that it will be possible to salvage your Agate. Any crack filling will still show that nasty chip. I think it also looks too damaged to recut.
Don't despair though, there are plenty of people on the forums that could cut a replacement stone for you. Obviously it wont be possible to make an identical stone but it should be very possible to get something that looks similar. I could do it easily but I am in Australia so probably better to get someone a little closer.

Thank you Sorry to hear about your cracked agate ring. There are ways to repair this but you may have to do some very gentle regrinding and polishing of the surface of the agate. I would contact the local jewelry making club and try to find a local silversmith to remove the agate from the ring setting. Then with thinned clear jewelry epoxy carefully fill the crack in the agate. You may have to do this filling a couple of times to completely fill the crack. Once the agate crack is filled the agate would need to be very lightly ground and the surface buffed to blend in the epoxy filling with the rest of the surface of the agate. It takes longer to explain this than to do it. Agates are not a soft stone and I don't know why a jeweler would tell you this. You always have to be careful of any ring stone. Even a diamond can be chipped or broken if bashed into something hard. Unlike say a pendant or earrings a ring that is worn daily takes a beating. Good luck. www.ganoksin.com/article/sealing-cracks-in-gemstones/

Am still new to the forums but ill do my best to find someone who can get me a look alike stone. Am from kenya

I passed by a silver smith a few months ago to get the ring resized and when he saw the crack he said if he tries to resize it the stone will break due to the heat. I'd like to hear you thoughts on the removal process will the stone break?

I doubt that the stone can be saved. Whatever you use in a crack that wide will eventually dull due to micro-abrasion and become obvious. It will also not prevent the crack from extending. Better to find a similar sardonyx cabochon the same size and replace it (after resizing).

I will send you a PM later and see what we can work out.
What I am thinking is take it to your silver smith and get the stone removed, The stone will probably break into pieces. Then you can get him/her to resize the ring. Send the pieces of stone to me and I will cut you a new stone and send them back. All you have to pay is postage both ways.

Here you go jaylegend. I made several just in case you stuff one up putting it in, the two on the left have minor flaws, the two on the right should come fairly close to fitting tightly, I made each of them a tiny bit oversize so they fit and have enough to hold them once the silver is pushed back around whichever you choose to go in the ring. They are all yours, choose one for your ring and give the others away to your sisters or mum, whatever, they are yours

Cool story! And so nice that there was a follow up. That doesn't happen often enough.
