Heard about this place and had to check it out. About 15 miles North of Payson Arizona and 12 miles down a dirt road (top speed about 30 mph) About a 2 hour drive and not far off the paved road. Well, the ground was littered with the stuff. And I took a day off work for this? You bet I did! And I'm going to Burro Creek for sure on Saturday. Should this be in locations rather than photos? I don't know, Check it out... Here is the site- You can see the ground littered with agate, (I think, I lowered the rez. so the photos load faster) A small piece- An agatized sea shell- What we brought back and my helpers- Nice Gold sparkles in this layered piece- Another shot of some of the agate- Last shot- All in all it was a good collecting day, but it started to rain and the wind picked up, so we left after about an hour.

That small piece is not crystal clear, but it has these little white bubbles in it. Found some Red, Orange, Blue, Gray, White, and of course and combination of those. The matrix had so be knocked off of some of the big ones. That is where the moss is on them. Them inside, well you know, each one in different. I gotta call Alpha-Supply and make sure that slab saw got ordered!

That small piece - I have a stone that looks like the whitish part - is that milky agate?

I could just see the helper holding the hose getting his sister, LOL....LOL... Nice haul, there is a place that isn't to far from where I live that has agates, and I am hoping that when I get to Wichita my brother-in-law will take us to some of the flint hills so I can collect some of that. Tami

Nice find for a short day.
I have been doing a ton of research around my area dealing with mining, maps etc. I have started a big list of places I have mapped out to go and visist to see what is there. I have gotten information out of old books, new books, net etc about places people have found stuff. It has been fun looking it all up on the net on the mining maps etc and forestery maps.
Now I just have to wait for the snow to leave higher up so we can get to the spots. It will be funner going to get the stuff then looking it up I am sure.

Tweety-The agate is more milky than it is clear. I don't know it you need a percentage of it to be white in order for it to qualify as milky, or if it has to do with the pattern? It is more like looking through wax paper in regard to translucency. Stefan- let me hang on to that shell and see if I find more when I go up again. I'll be up there plenty of times, I can assure you.

I am supposed to be getting a 14inch Lortone Panther from Alpha-Suppy. I put my order in at the Rock Show in Tucson. I need to see if he followed through when he got back home, because it is a bit of a wait even once the order is in.

I called Alpha-Supply and the saw order is in, but Lortone is behind. I guess no saw is made before its time. I'll save what I have till it gets here. But I know I can count on you John, but I still have those recent slabs to go through and the list goes on... Thanks!

Been there, done that. I was supposed to pick up my saw from Graves after the show in Tucson. So I made the 2 hour drive all jazzed. But they got so exited, I guess, they sold it the day before I was supposed to pick it up. That's why my new one is coming from Alpha-Supply.

Hey Banjo!!!
Boy, you folks did alright!
What a great trip ... I envy you!
We are planning on a trip to New Mexico in the end of April ... we are heading to Carlsbad Caverns for a day and then going to Sante Fe and meet up with family for a weekend of us four kids and our Mother. This was our gift to her for Christmas ... she has always been fascinated by the Loretto Chapel, so that is where we are taking her for the weekend!
Great bunch of helpers as well! Bless their hearts.
Have a great day and thanks for the photo's.
John
