So awhile back I had a larger Fairburn that I posted, I cut it to find more patterns and there wasn't anything inside of it. I saved the bigger end with the patterns to tumble, it's the larger stone in the middle. The barrel is a six pound barrel. My question is this- can larger stones like this chip smaller stones of the same hardness? I have pea gravel in there also. Thanks! ![](http://res.cloudinary.com/mt67/image/upload/v1563294423/fglgoh5splmk19n847dk.jpg)

Yes , Make sure the barrel is very full, more than 80%.
And , that looks like the perfect Slurry Thickness to help protect the small stones and to get the Best Grinding action.

Last load I had a go with a couple of large stones, they did OK through all grinding stages with a thick slurry. Polish was a disaster, I tried to get a nice thick slurry but wasn't very successful probably too thick if anything, I had about half my load smashed, even the large rocks suffered very bad bruising. I think I will stay away from large stuff for a while.

In polish , make sure to have more than 50% plastic beads.

Some people use stage-designated plastic for each grit, but for me just giving it a good wash has worked well. Of course, I've only finished a handful of loads.

Is it possible that you had too much water in the barrel with the plastic beads during polish? The issue with beads is they float and won't help the rock on the bottom if there is just water there.

I haven't gotten that far with this particular stone, yet. I may have to keep an eye on that, however. Thanks!
