I got a custom job from a guy with very definite wants. He even pointed me to 2 old pieces that he would like me to use as inspiration. He just bought a piece with lots of swirls and he raved about it. He had already purchased a rather long stone and did not mind the pendant being long. He was adamant that the bail not be a wire bail (the two old pieces had purchased bails). So, I sat down and did some sketches. Getting bored and frustrated with that, I decided just to start working and see where it led. I had some ideas about filling in the gap where the straight wires come down at the bottom with scrolls, but they would be so small that I nixed that idea. I was drawing blanks, so I just worked and designed as I went. Since he wanted copper, it was no big deal to scrap it, if I wanted to. At first, I really didn't like the finished piece, but it has grown on me- a lot. It reminds me of a musical instrument- like a harp. Anyway, I asked him about the patina, which I assume he wants, but asked anyway. He hasn't gotten back to me, yet. It does not photograph well, unfortunately. Some pieces don't. I'm happy with it. I don't know if he will be. The patina will help, I'm sure. What do y'all think? He said make it for a man or a woman. I should have gotten him to define that a little more. Did he mean either/or; or both? I dunno. Guess I'll find out. Ooops.
edit Just heard from him- patina it is.

I should add that he is a wirewrapper, too, and I suspect, by his quite deliberate needs, that he may be planning to backward engineer this. So, I wanted something that would be a little more difficult. There are some things about it that don't meet the eye.

Not even sure how to respond to this. If you're asking for opinions about being for a man or woman, I definitely think it would be something a woman would wear over a man. Either way you did a beautiful job!

A woman would wear it. I think some men would. It resembles a man’s tie. The patina will help in the masculinity department.
Hope you hear from men of different ages. Nevertheless, I like it.

Absolutely love this!
The patina will just make it even better and match the bail better.
Not sure it is uni-sex but you never know

I just showed a co-worker and she said "That's a really cool harp!"

Just finished the patina pics. Thanks for the comments. I like it! Love the bone, and the wrap reminds me of a clef note on a stave. Albeit, a stave turned vertically. You did a great job on the patina, well done all around!

Thank you! I have a brass brush dedicated to copper. It's really great for removing the patina. I really miss working with copper...

I think you did great with a tough project. Picking up on that he might be thinking of copying your techniques was brilliant.
That would be a tough wrap to copy.

I love your work on this as I do everything you create. As a man, I would not be inclined to wear it...but I normally don’t wear any pendants/chains. Beautiful work though!

A male friend who wears simple pendants said he prefers less “gingerbread “.
He does wear polished pieces with a hole drilled for a leather thong.

I really like it. NICE work. But ... it is nothing a man should be wearing. Well, maybe one of those man-bun wearin', west coast hippy socialists living in mom's basement "men" that aren't sure which bathroom to use on any given day. just sayin' (you asked!)

Great answer! Roger that.
My grandaughter went to Seattle for a week. Can't wait for her to come back. I told her to pick up some rocks since she has plans to really get out to nature. One of her summer hoorahs before college. Couldn't send her to Europe. LOL! But, she was happy to see America.

Well, he likes it. Just waiting to get paid and off it goes. I was kinda hoping I would have to keep it.

I think it is an amazing looking work. I can't imagine what you might be concerned about with the design. I have not seen anything like it yet either. For my personal tastes, I would have not asked for patina (spelling).
I don't sell my stuff, and don't plan to either. But I am totally stealing all of these design accent ideas!
Um.. well, if you don't mind of course!

Um.. well, if you don't mind of course! Actually, I am a huge supporter of intellectual property rights. If you want to come up with something similar, that's fine, but copying someone's work is frowned upon. That's not to say you can't be inspired by something to come up with something of your own. Nothing would make me happier.
