Gheez, I took these down in the basement and forgot about taking the pics. Hope you don't mind I posted them here, give the others something to look at between the nice batch pics. My sister & her hubby bought some land in AZ so they can be snowbirds. She picked up a few rocks for me ... to torture me I think ... ;D She said maybe it would convince me to visit ... like after seeing Banjo's rocks I need any extra convincing that I want to visit AZ. LOL Mostly quartz, wondering if the pink is rose quartz or? Size of half dollar. This one is really yellow, about 4 inches long. Backside of above rock, has some reddish color on the back. About 3 inches long. Another about the size of a half dollar. Jasper? Little larger than a quarter. Little bigger than a half dollar. I'm expecting more next year when they go but she was flying this time so just had a small carry on to stuff a few in. The did visit Superior, AZ too so I showed her what the raw Apache tears looked like. I know I'll get more of those. Cher

Hi Cher,
Definitely worth a trip ... even if you don't go rock hounding (yea ... like that will ever happen ;D).
Be sure to take a truck!

5th one down looks like rose Quartz. The rose quartz here in AZ. is not real pure, and that's about as close as you get. The first one looks like mica, if it sparkles. The rest look like variations of quartz with different impurities and the jasper looks to be banded Jasper. They'll all polish up real good. All about the same hardness. I'll tell you that living here it's hard not to stumble across interesting rocks at every turn. It's even more amazing when you run into some of the fields and hills that are just covered with some sort of agate, jasper and all manner of interesting rocks. Makes me want to take a geology class and figure out what more of these rocks are. You let me know when you come out here.

Thanks Banjo, No sparkle to the top one so it must be some kind of quart. It's quite similar to the fifth one down except more of a cherry color that the rose quartz color. That's so cool, didn't know if you guys had rose quartz down there or not. Wish the stupid snow would go away, it's driving me nuts that I can't break any of these other rocks that I have. I don't see any trips to AZ in the near future but if I ever get down that way will sure give you a holler. Appreciate you taking the time to look at them.

Nice rocks- You need a bigger tumbler- Then you can just toss em in like they are! I had an great uncle in AZ- He had a lap shop and everything- He used to walk ou into the dessert and collect- then cut and polish the stuff- When he died his kids just gave away his collection and shop Wish he was still alive!

I have a QT66 (twin 6 lb barrels) so the half dollar size rocks fit in there just fine. I knew two people in my life who tumbled rocks and made things with them. My uncle, who was the first ever to take us kids our rock hunting and my girlfriends father. My dad worked at a converyor belt repair company so he took some 5 gallon metal buckets in to the shop and lined them with the rubber stuff they repaired the belts with. Seems to me we called it pong cause it bounce higher than any thing you saw. He used to take his polished rocks and make pen sets and things with them. We had one in the shape of Minnesota. It was some kind of a clear plastic that was like an half inch thick with the rocks inside. Very cool. I wish I had paid more attention back then, I spent many hours at their house.
