It's been a while since I last posted cab photos.
1. Laguna Oops — I was all excited to cut a cab to feature this drusy pocket and I really felt that I had done a great job. So I showed it to my wife who, with just a glance, said, "It looks like some bearded guy with his mouth open and his stocking cap pulled down over his eyes!" Oh, crap! So I rotated it and now it looks like some sort of munchkin in red pants and his mouth is still hanging open. Oh, well, feature it!
2. Laguna Oops II — When close to finishing this one, I had intended it to be in the first orientation, but all I saw was some goofy character with a red nose and a smirking mouth off to one side. So I showed this one to my wife, too. She took it, rotated it, and said, "Now it looks like one of those 'mother and child' graphics. That ought to be pleasing to someone." Our daughter had also stopped by. She then replied, "No, this is more like 'mother and duck'." Great. Actually, the duck bill became less prominent with the higher grits. Mother and child it is.
3. Charoite — What do you do with very low grade charoite with virtually no chatoyancy? Go big or go home! I call this "faceted stone profile" shape the "Superman shape". It's a shape that I like because it presents some unique design options for pendants.
3. Thulite — I like this one because the white and dark patterns on the bottom and up the right right side look (to the eye, but not so much in the photo) like a spray of flowers.
4. Sodalite — My first time with this mineral. I was surprised that it polished up so well. Also, all you guys now have me cutting pointed cabs. I always used to avoid or round off any points, but not necessarily any more...
5. Tahoma I — First time with this material, too. I like it.
6. Tahoma II
7. Agate — I call this cab the "Vulture's Beak". Can you tell me what type of agate it might be? I'm not sure.
8. Guilty Pleasure I — The small cut or bank on one side of our driveway sometimes coughs up some small rocks and stones that are worth sawing open to see what's inside. Most of them appear to be of volcanic origin and all are courtesy of Canada via the the last ice age glaciers. This looks metavolcanic to me, but I really don't know. It's a small cab.
9. Guilty Pleasure II — The other half...
