EXCELLENT batch!! Nice mix too!
...yeah, what is that stone, second pic above the quarter? Also, is that a vein hematite in the 4th rock on top row, first pic? Sure shines like it in the picture.

Oh so sorry- I forgot labels- ok momma- That was some kind of brecca Jasper- but I was a bit dissapointed with it - it is the second run for it and it just does not want to shinelike it should- 69 beeper- no that is not hematite (but the photo sure makes it look like it) it is actually a quartz vien running through it- It is almost clear- but the scanner has trouble picking it up (bad reflection) Ok here is the run down- First pic some brecca jasper and odds and ends second pic Rose quartz (yes the color did not show well) amethyst, citrine quartz, Milky quartz, smokey quartz, a clear quartz, and a garnet that got in there somehow third pic Pet woods, turetella agate, and some jaspers 4th pic more pet wood and jasper- nice piece of lace agate (my daughter already stole that one and the amethyst) 5th pic is all Ocean Jasper chips-

You have some very cool rocks there but I'm curious, why didn't you run the third stage of 500 or 600 grit instead of going right to tripoli?
I think you'd have gotten the shine you were looking for if you would have run it though a 500 or 600 grit stage before using the tripoli. I've used tripoli like a pre-polish but I don't think it's intended as a replacement for that step. For as long as you ran them, you should have had a really nice wet shine on all of it.
Hey, some of you others ... Opinions on that please.

i'd have put the 400-600 grit step in the middle too. but i also wonder if the scanned pics don't show the shine like the ones taken with digital. but if you go by what i do you might never, ever finish a batch . mine have been in 60/90 since october or before. kim

I scan my pics all the time Kim, it will show the shine. Stefan, do you have any 500 grit? Not that it looks like grit, it looks like gray powder, at least mine does. I'd put them back in and run a week in 500, and a week (2 if you can stand it) in the aluminum oxide polish. Bet you'd see a very noticeable difference.

I LIKEY! Nice variety. Some of it looks an aweful lot like my last run, though. Our tumblers are big bullies, the beat up everything I do agree about the 600 stage. It's more important than the tripoli in my opinion. I use the tripoli just fo kind of a boost, but 600 is my prepolish. Says the lady with the crappy last batch cookie

Brecca Jasper?? Verry cool. Know I know what I found and also know why its didnt tumble well in first stage for almost 3 weeks. Is that normal for that type of rock?
Thanks Stefan. Really pretty batch you have there. I still have yet to come up with at least one batch. Just gotta wait till I get 3 more tumblers. The one I have I only decided to use it for only stage 1. Im fraid to go any further with the other stages in the same barrel. Any suggestions for using same barrel for all stages?

I will definitely back you on that one Cher I generally run a 120/220, 400, 600, Triploi and then Polish. It will definitely help you achieve a much better quailty finished product. Those are nice ... but, if you put them back in with a 600 run then finish them out ... I think you will really be shocked at how much nicer they turn out. Keep up the good work! John

Ok I looked at the stuff at work (my home laptop screen sucks) and the rocks are a lot shineier than the scan shows- Hmmm I think I need to use a different background! The Ocena Jasper is more represntiative of the shine I don't know why I did not use 500- I have some- Guess I was just in a hurry? Or perhaps I was thinking (or not in this case) that the trip would do the job- Hmm lets just say I had a BF. The Brecca jasper has gone through 2 runs and I am still not happy with it- But It is done- I think there are a few do-overs in this batch but all in all I'm pretty happy (already made a bellcap necklace out of the amethyst for my daughter- The only thing I'm not happy with are the scans! I think I need a darker background when scanning- Cher what color do yuo use (i seem to remeber a dark velvet patterned backgraound at one point)

Depends on if I'm using my scanner or the dc. I do have a small remnant of crushed black velvet that works nice for lighter stones but I like the clarity I get from the scanner. On the scanner, I don't use anything, it's just the white background that you get normally. You can get a black background with the scanner by leaving the top up.
