Sorry, the size thing drives me too crazy so I started new thread.
Yuppers, they look like the real deal, when they are rolling up with the little waves they always look so polished -- as long as they are wet. It's so cool to get them to stay that way! And you've got some C.M. diamonds in there, too. I'm curious how many grinds you used. I did a batch of these soon after I got my first tumbler and having read directions saying that you could eliminate early grinds with well rounded beach stones, I did so and I think started mine around 500. Is that what you did? I really need some of those. I really need to drive to the east coast. Yes. Whoever was recently talking about Wildwood, didn't somebody say they were going to go to AC and Wildwood this weekend or something? Is anything open in Wildwood in early March??

Oh I've been wondering about that - I've got some little white beach stones that are really rounded and was thinking of skipping the coarse grit stage but wasnt sure whether to - I've put a few in so far but they only stayed in coarse for 5 days. I'm dying to see if they polish ok so I can go and collect some more !

Yeah, the ocean did the first grind for me ;D So I skipped it and went to the 500, then pre-polish, now polish, tumbling with borax and water for 1 hour between each step, and I will burnish them for a day or two at the end. It's funny Sand mentioned they looked like "water drops", that's exactly what they look like on the beach when wet, they are frosted when dry. We are going to Atlantic City for St.Patty's day this year, and staying at the Taj. Wildwood is mostly closed but I think Shellingers's restaurant is still open, casual dining, GREAT SEAFOOD!, good prices!!! Oh and the Striper's will be running soon, great game and eating fish!!! Marian ps I have some Cape May stuff left to trade if you want, just shoot me an email: americanbulldogsnj@yahoo.com

Cher, Cape May diamonds is the name for clear quartz pebbles that polish up to look like water drops. From what I gather these picked up the name a number of years back and it's become kind of a tourist thing. The rock shop we are talking about sells Cape May diamond jewelry, polished stones, etc. I don't remember whether they first got the name because they were misidentified as diamonds, or what.

Marian, thanks for the offer, but I don't want to lose my excuse for a Cape May jaunt! In this case, getting them is easily half or more of the fun. Actually, a family member gave me a small sackful at Christmas.
Plus, I'm ready to ride on the Sea Serpent. And the Great Nor'easter.
In my experience the sidewalks in Wildwood were rolled up and placed in storage during the off season.
