Went up to visit an old rockhound friend yesterday. Upon arrival his wife asked if I could sit with him for a while so she and her daughter could run some errands. Proceeded to replace the analog to digital box on an old tv in his bedroom with a spare I had, new one worked fine. We then talked for 3 hours until they returned. Finally got out to the rock shed about 3:00pm, it was hot about 103-104 and humid. Only spent an hour but managed to load up a little over 200 pounds. A few sample pictures; Mostly Big Bend Agate DSC_0403 by Findrocks, on Flickr Some Black-Skin Agate DSC_0405 by Findrocks, on Flickr Obsidian, Mahogany and nice Snowflake; DSC_0407 by Findrocks, on Flickr A 24 pound petrified Palm Bulb; DSC_0409 by Findrocks, on Flickr An assortment of Geodes; DSC_0411 by Findrocks, on Flickr Always a good visit. We spent a lot of time discussing the Big Bend area and Needle Peak collecting spots. His mind is still very sharp and I could tell he really enjoyed the discussion. Kind of sad to think that his collecting days have ended.

You were a well rewarded friend, and tv repairman. The conversation was probably the best part.

You have the best friends, sad when a guy can't play with rocks anymore. I am not an obsidian fan but I really like that cosmic snowflake. Save a slice for me.

The conversations must have been great. Am sure he appreciated the visit.
Did a double take on that palm root, it is very great.

Those are some nice looking material. Lookss like you have a true rockhounding buddy that knows his stuff. In picture number two is a perfect description of a location he use to pick at big bend.
Sounds to me the time you spent with him most likely ment alot more to him then those rocks did or the tv.
To me that is the true meaning of friendship. You are good man!!!

Score! Glad to hear and see that people are still out there that help out their friends in need (No matter what).. Thumbs up You were rewarded with quite the haul... Just to be clear, I am paying for the rocks I take, at a bargain price. Next time I go, I am going to set it up so I can bring at least some of the rocks inside for him to review. That has always been a thrill for him, getting to re-view and identify rocks he collected in the past. Figure I can put down some plastic and towels so we can spray them off to help with the identifying. He would also tell me which way he would cut. And if he did not know or remember what it was or where it was from, he would say so. Sure hope I get to visit him a few more times. But as he has told me several times, Father Time is un-defeated!! make the most of what you get. Henry

People often say If rocks could talk. This is the next best thing. I am sure he will enjoy the memories of when he collected them.
Will you be bringing back some slabs you cut for him to see?

Will bring up some polished Big Bend Wood as well as some of the tumbled pendant stones that I have made, all from material I bought from him.
