I took a gamble and got this 1 pound rock off of E-bay for $8.00. I really like the pattern. It polishes up Great...but I don't have a clue as to what it is. I'm going to wire wrap it, and the first thing people say is "What kind of stone is it?" I'll be able to get a dozen cabs out of this thing and I hate to say "It's Jasper". So, any ideas out there? It's really a nice chuck of stone, but even the guys I got it from didn't know what it was??? Rough---> The first cab I got off of it---> Thanks! -Banjo

Don't have a clue as to what it is, but it's really neat! The cabs are great! Will make some fabulous pendants! Can't want to see them finished.

Looks very interesting and I agree about the pattern, that's cool. Love the cab, what did you do, super glue it to your table to make it stand up? Is it really that dark or is that just the picture? Not that I have any idea but it might be easier to find an id if it was closer to the actual color. Can we call you ebay junkie now? *smile*

Since the guy you got it from doesn't even know, I say you dub it Banjo Creek Jasper and be done with it. ;D

BanjoCreek Jasper sounds like a winner to me also. I think however, it is feldspar pebbles entwined with obsidian. It has the obsidian look in the cabochet photos. Should be just a tad softer than the feldspar.

The cab stands up with some of that 'bees wax, I posted about earlier. I have a few pounds of the stuff. It’s a soft wax and pretty sticky. Just roll a little column and stick the cab to it. The colors of the photos of the cab are closer to the real color. I was able to color correct for tungsten light. The rock is all the same material, and it would break though the swirls if I hit it with a hammer, but I used my 4” trim saw. These oval patterns are on one side and they just become lines and patterns on the other side. I ought to e-mail the guy I got it from and see where it originated. Maybe I can get a clue that way. Thanks for the help. I appreciate it, and it’s back to cutting a few more cabs. Just got back from rock hounding out towards Superior AZ. And picked up a small bucket of Apache Tears and a bunch of really cool Jaspers and Agates. Since we have had so much rain lately, the terrain is altered and the washes are flowing. -Banjo

Hey Banjo,
Banjo Creek Jasper sounds good to me as well.
That is how half of the rocks get their name anyway ... either from the individual who found it or a location from which it was found.
I looks to be a type of exotica jasper to me, nice patterns and colors!
Banjo Creek Exotica Jasper ... kind of has a nice ring to it ... don't you think?
