My daughter is making a trip in Oct and will do some rock shopping for me. Any recommendations? I'll do some research online, too, but I just thought to ask here first. She will probably be in Phoenix a few days, too. I don't know if she will be doing any shopping there.

Not a whole lot left of rock shops in the valley other then souvenir shops selling died agates. If your daughter wants to drive a half hour SE, she is more then welcome to look through my collection, I have a large selection of rough and thousands of slabs I am welling to part with.
You could also try Dean at TCR on FB, he mainly sells on-line these days, HUGE selection at his house. He lives near the Scottsdale border.

October still get pretty hot in the mid day
but morning and evening cool down nicely

She looked up the weather and it looks pretty good that time of year.
She's never been out West. She's really excited to see the desert, too. They are gonna try to make a fly over of the Grand Canyon, time permitting.

She should plan a full day road trip, start in Prescott, head to Jerome, then to Cottonwood and then up to Sedona. If time permits Flagstaff. There is suppose to be a decent rock shop in Jerome and Cottonwood, and I am sure Robin would gladly show her around in the Prescott area.

If she can make it out to Tim's AzRockGeek house, I'd absolutely recommend that. Awesome rocks to be had there!
Don't know if she'll have the time to make it up to Prescott, but if she does I'd be happy to show her around up here. Unfortunately, we don't have any rockshops. 
Cottonwood is the closest real rock shop, I think. Jerome has a small rock shop, but it is geared more to tourists, i.e., mostly specimens and display pieces and that sort of thing. It's one of my favorite places -- an artist community with loads of artisan shops all located in historic buildings, plus the Haunted Hamburger (great burgers!).
Sedona is also a fun place to visit, but they are geared more toward healy-feely crystals and higher end jewelry stuff, but not lapidary.

Thanks! As we get closer to mid Oct, she should know better what her schedule will be. It's part business, so she has to work around some luncheons and what not. But, yeah, I'll keep y'all updated about her plans.

Interesting aspect of Phoenix is the mountains
Plus it quick way to acclimate
Your sense of direction in Valley of the Sun
The band of mountains to the south w/the radio towers are South Mountain
So if your in Phoenix and your looking them then your looking
—south.
To the east is the mighty Superstitions and
Four Peaks.
A quick 3 hours tour ride up to Canyon Lake in the Supers is
a great way to experience the wilderness of the Sonoran desert.
Awesome vistas
And October weather wouldn’t be to bad
I always suggest a drive quick through of Papago Park
Close and fast from Sky Harbor and don't overlook a quick peak into the
Hohokam village at Pueblo Grande Museum.
You can see a quick glimpse of it from the highway.
Well that a little difficult to explain but it is something to be aware of.
Papago Park to the uninitiated may be fairly boring
But again the Vistas of the city is legend
and you might see big Horn sheep in the evening.
The Phoenix Zoo is there and giraffes can be seen.
The stand out feature in Papago (besides Hole in the Rock)
is the view of that most magnificent beast right in middle of Phoenix
CamelBack Mountain.
Its an awesome mountain. My fave!
Way out west is the White Tank Mountains.
The housing development out there is remarkable
Phoenix is Huge area wide.
Good and bad.
Anyway the mountain landmarks are something to consider
and all viewable just about anywhere in Phoenix.
Can drive up to many of those mountains for awesome views of the city.
But time is short…Enjoy!
p.s. oyeah and for the finest Sonoran Phoenix style Mexican cuisine
don 'Jose is da best.
