I hope my picture shows up. This is the first time I have tried Photobucket. This is sure not much for what I spent! There is some nice color on a few on the right hand side. I got one big black rock about as large as my fist. I can see a little color around the edges, but not much. Do you think I should try to bust it up before I tumble it? It's pretty large to go in my 3 lb barrel. Here is the package of mixed stones. Nothing to brag about but a few good emeralds. They definitely won't make me rich, but they may put me in the poor house. I still have an order coming from Verzazio. I'll wait for them before I put them in the tumbler. Trish

I can't believe how green that black stone looks in the picture. Looking at it here, it just looks black! Trish

That stuff looks really neat, any idea what the pink/purple ones are? Those are really pretty. That's going to be one gorgeous load when it's done.

Nice lot Trish I wouldn't put those large ones in your barrel though.
I had a large one one (not quite as lage as yours) and ended up taking it out and replacing it with other emeralds. I don't think I'll ever put it back in without taking a hammer to it first.
I found that the larger stones took too much space and didnt allow the smaller ones to tumble freely. Your's being as big as they are, might in fact wedge some smaller emeralds between the wall of your barrel and the rocks themselves.

I sorted out most of the stones without any or with almost no matrix. Should I tumble these with the rest or wait awhile to put them in. Will they grind down to nothing if I put them in with the rest? Thanks for any help. Trish

Those actually have pretty good colour, bet the turn out great. Where's the big black one, I'd like to seed that. Yeah, I'd definately whack the big ones. Even if it tumbled well, what would you do with something that big? Guess I'm thinking from a jelwery making point of view ;D

I already whacked the big one. It was black all the way through. Just a little green on the outside, and that one rock was most of the one lot. That one was sure a loser, but the other two weren't bad. Trish

I have ones just like those. I threw them into the tumbler with everything (coarse grit). Nothing has changed other then they're rounding out a bit and some of the matrix is coming off.
But then again, I'm not too concerned about them coming out as small as pin heads in the end. It's the larger ones I'm more curious about. It's personal preference really.

I had one emerald inpaticular come out really well. It wasn't translucent but it had a beautiful colour of deep green and was diamond (in the traditional sense) shaped. I mounted it and gave it to my mother in law for Christmas. Most of yours, going in, have as much or more potential. Keep us up to date.

Trish, I wouldn't toss the black fragments. Some of them probably have green em crystals inside. It happens a lot.
Everybody, I wouldn't whack anything, I'd tumble it as it is, let it fracture along its predetermined lines, which it will usually do in a rough grind if it wants to. If it takes a while just put it in with other rocks until it shapes up. You might end up with a really nice piece -- consider what a beautifully shaped and polished fist-size emerald would look like? Also, consider whether there is more value to a huge, beautiful and unique piece as opposed to a whole bunch of run of the mill low grade emerald pebbles. Not to mention that if you finish it and THEN decide to whack it, your options are all still open. One person's opinion.

Thanks Puppie, I put all the pieces in. I need them to fill the barrel. Doesn't look like any green inside, but you never know. Trish
