One night I got the bright idea of making mini wind chimes to hang off of rear view mirror of my pickup. NEVER AGAIN!! I almost went blind trying to tie the knots in the 2 lb test fishing line I used!!Not to mention drilling the holes in the tiny copper ring for the line to go through!! They didn't come out all that great but here they are. Tom

Hey Tom,
That is an interesting idea ... I would definitely have to have bigger rocks ... as our road is definitely getting rough ... but then again ... I might need a new windshield ;D

Cute, definitely cute! I'm wondering .... anyone know how well the epoxy stands up to sunlight?
Cher
PS ... how did you drill the holes in the copper ring?

I Like the chime Tom , but I don't think I would want it hanging in my vehicle , too much distraction those pretty rocks. I rather concentrate on the road. Is that huge screwdriver part of the set-up?
;D ;D

That is a neat idea. As for going blind with the tiny stuff that is why I now use a magnifying set of glasses that I put on my head. I have a feeling that when I go to the eye doctor this year he is going to tell me that I need bifocals. I don't mind the fact of needing them I do worry about the costs. Tami

Hmmmm I have one rock in the last batch that sounds strange when it hits others- Almost like glass- I set it aside for some strange reason- Now I know why- It will be chime one in MY wind chimes! Tom how is the chime from them?

as usual, Tom, you seem to be overflowing with creative juice when it comes to rocks and rock appliances. not only are you a good engineer, you also have a creative side for the finer things.
but i have to agree with Jack, i'd be so busy admiring the banding in the rocks that i'd end up off the road somehow and the nice policeman just wouldn't understand my problem.
(well, you see officer, ..)

Thank you veryone for your comments and compliments!!
I figured I'd better do it that way or i'll be up till midnight again writing replies!! LOL
I'll see if I can keep it short winded this time.
Mr. Sands,,,,Thanks John the cabajohn man!!
John the Bear,,
Yes the rocks should be bigger but after I went through hell drilling the copper ring it was wind chimes or bust!!
Thanks Cher,,
I have no idea how the epoxy will at to sunlight.
I used an industrial type of "super glue" made by Locktite.
Jack,,
The screw driver goes with the chimes.
If they start to get annoying you whack them with the screw driver!! LOL
Thanks Tami,,
I wear progressive bifocals and it's taken me several years to get used to them,,,
Good luck,,,
Kim you have no idea just how busy i've been.
I had to take a break from my "should do" projects and work on my "want to do" ones!!
Stefan I hope your chimes sound great.
The chimes have a nice tinkling ring to them. Not too loud and not too soft but next batch will deffinately be bigger.
Csrock,,,,Thanks
KD I guess we'll all have to wear blinders and just listen!!
Thanks for the kind words too.
Tweet,,,,The heck with everyone else.Enjoy "your" life as long as you can!!
Thanks again Gang,,,,

Those baby wind chimes are so cute! Was the copper hard to drill because you are blind as a bat (like me) or is some other reason the holes were so hard to drill? I have drilled holes in copper pipe and it was a breeze, so I am assuming it's the blind part that made it so difficult!
I had to go the biofocal route a couple of years ago. I did the progressive lenses thing and I hate them. I didn't have a problem getting used to them, but I swear I see better close up without my glasses than with. I always take them off to read, bead or do anything close. I think I REALLY didn't need bifocals and got scammed by the eye doctor. $579 and I see better without them than with! Got to go to the eye doctor soon. It will be a different doctor, but if he also says I need bifocals I am going for two pairs of glasses - one for my close up and one for distance - rather than bifocals. I am just not willing to pay that much again for glasses that I might not correct my close up vision and I hate as much as the ones I have now!

Questions about drilling the copper ring. The reason I had difficulty drilling the holes in the ring is that the ring is less then 1/16" thick and the fishing line is only 0.003" in diameter.I had to drill the holes with a 0.004" drill bit. I first tried cutting the ring and then lay out the holes to a 5 hole pattern but that was not going to happen. I finally figured a way to drill the holes.I took a 6" piece of copper tubing and laid out the 5 hole patern. Then I drilled the holes. After I deburred the holes I cut the tubing just under 1/16" thick with a tubing cutter, deburred the ring and that's that!
